Actor Martin Sheen, primate researcher Jane Goodall, and local authors Barbara Kingsolver and Charles Bowden are joining the Tucson-based Center for Biological Diversity in asking the government to list 225 species as endangered. The 1,000 pages of legal documents filed Tuesday - billed as the largest listing effort in the 30-year history of the Endangered Species Act - includes 31 species in the Southwest, seven off them in Arizona.
