A bill pending in the state House would designate July 7 as Missouri Sliced Bread Day. Supporters say the day is needed to promote tourism in the northern Missouri city of Chillicothe, where the first commercially sliced bread was sold on July 7, 1928.

Today, September 10, George W. Bush came to our city of Chillicothe, Ohio. It was quite a thrill. He spoke to an estimated 10-15,000 people at the local fairgrounds. A number of schools on the outskirts of Chillicothe dismissed early so their staff and students could attend the 4:00 rally. The Chillicothe City Schools did not, frustrating a large number of elementary teachers (YES, teachers, many republican, who wanted to attend the rally with their families!).
