Ancient stone circle found in Skåne Published: 9 Dec 07 10:57 CET Ancient remains including a 3,000 year-old stone circle and presumed place of sacrifice have been discovered near Vitemölla on Österlen in the far south of Sweden. The site extends over two hectares and is older and bigger than the region's celebrated Ale's Stones. The site, presumed to date from the bronze age, is reported to be probably the largest stone circle in the whole of northern Europe. The find was made by Bob G Lind, a private researcher and archeoastronomer, reports Kvällsposten. Lind has named the stone circle...

Seahenge saga comes full circle 23 August 2007 The story of Seahenge has turned full circle, as the ancient timbers are returned to Norfolk. But as experts prepare them to go on display at King's Lynn Museum, CHRIS BISHOP finds an enigma that remains unsolved. Nearly 10 years after its controversial excavation, the mystery remains. While the upturned oak tree and its ring of timbers have taught us a few things we didn't know about our ancestors, we still don't know why they built it. Late in 1998, a long-forgotten landscape began re-emerging from beneath the sands of Holme Beach,...

Eric Julien, a former French military air traffic controller and senior airport manager, has completed a study of the comet 73P Schwassmann- Wachmann and declared that a fragment is highly likely to impact the Earth on or around May 25, 2006. Comet Schwassman-Wachmann follows a five-year orbit that crosses the solar system's ecliptic plane. It has followed its five year orbit intact for centuries; but, in 1995, mysteriously fragmented. According to Julien, this is the same year that a crop circle appeared showing the inner solar system with the Earth missing from its orbit. He argues the "Missing Earth" crop...

Germany to reopen 6,800-year-old mystery circle 20 December 2005 BERLIN - At the winter solstice this week, Germany is to open a replica of a mysterious wooden circle that is believed to be a temple of the sun built by a lost culture 6,800 years ago. The circle of posts, in a flat river plain at Goseck south of Berlin, has mystified scientists since its discovery in 1991 by an archaeologist studying the landscape from the air. An excavation found post holes and what may be the remains of ritual fires. Goseck has been dubbed the German Stonehenge, though it...

Given the polarized tenor of politics these days, you would think that being a Democrat, or even an independent, in the inner sanctum of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's Republican administration would feel like sneaking behind enemy lines in war or, worse, working for the other side. But a funny thing keeps happening as California moves closer to the Nov. 8 special election and Democrats seek to characterize Schwarzenegger as a right-wing partisan trying to impose the Bush agenda on the Golden State. The more Democrats accuse the governor of veering to the right, the more he keeps hiring, and promoting, Democrats...

MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2005) -- For the Corona family, flying flags just wasn’t enough to show their support for America’s military. Instead, the Corona’s chose to show appreciation with an 8-acre corn crop formation, which displays all the armed forces in action from an aerial view. The formation, which doubles as a maze, was unveiled in Temecula, at its official grand opening Monday. The maze depicts the Marines flag raising at Iwo Jima, the Army in an M-1 Abrams Main Battle Tank, the Navy’s Battleship BB-63 Missouri, and the Air Force in an F-16 Fighter...

In the September 20 issue of Time Magazine, author David Van Biema/Jackson writes very flippantly about a “Muslims Only” event held at Six Flags in New Jersey. He seems irritated that anyone would raise objections to religious segregation at a public amusement park. Before objections were raised, just how did the event’s organizers, the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), plan to enforce Muslim-only entrance to Six Flags? By the way people dressed? By their skin color? Would entrants to the park have been forced to recite verses of the Koran? Were Jews wearing yarmulkes and Christians wearing crucifixes to...

The maximum sentence that can be considered in juvenile court on a capital murder charge is 40 years, prosecutor Randi King said. In the adult system, she could...

First Significant UK formation of 2004 spotted On May 3, near Deacon Hill in Bedfordshire, UK, the first significant formation of the year has been spotted in a flowering field of oil seed rape. The formation is similar in design to the 2003 Locust Grove, Ohio formation that appeared close to the Serpent Mound earthwork. Although it has been raining rather steadily, since being spotted, the formation has been inspected, and there have been some details that have emerged which may indicate the formation may be not have been a human mechanically-made one.

'Fairy circles' of Africa baffle scientists (Filed: 10/05/2004) Twenty-five years of research fail to find the cause of a mysterious natural phenomenon, reports Tim Butcher at Wolwedans Camp One of Africa's most mysterious natural phenomena still cannot be explained despite 25 years of research, scientists admitted yesterday. Rings known as "fairy circles" that pockmark vast areas of desert in Namibia and South Africa have baffled botanists from the University of Pretoria and the Polytechnic of Namibia. They have ruled out termite activity, poisoning from toxic indigenous plants, contamination from radioactive minerals and even ostrich dust baths as possible causes. "At...

Buried megaliths discovered at stone circle site Archaeologists have discovered an arc of buried megaliths that once formed part of the great stone circle at Avebury in Wiltshire. The National Trust says the existence of these enormous stones, originally constructed more than 4,500 years ago, has remained a puzzle for the last 300 years. Visitors to Avebury will see most of the standing megaliths in the western half of the stone circle. The famous map of Avebury drawn up by William Stukely in the 1720s showed that many of the stones in the south east and north east quadrants of...
