There is no need to tiptoe gingerly around this topic: Maurice Clemmons, who was shot and killed as authorities tried to apprehend him for the shooting deaths of four Washington police officers - is former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's Willie Horton. Horton, you might recall, is the convicted killer who raped a woman while wrongly released as part of a prison furlough program supported by former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis - thus helping to torpedo the 1988 Democratic presidential nominee's bid for the White House. The Clemmons' story likewise should kill any chance of Huckabee winning, should he run in...

Cop-Killer??? A little bit of light needs to be shed on a funny little thing called FACTS as it pertains to the issues surrounding the suspected cop-killer Maurice Clemmons. Shamefully prominent voices in the Conservative punditocracy (mostly ones who supported Romney in the last go-round) have come out attempting to link Gov. Mike Huckabee to the killings in Seattle that took the lives of four police officers. Most of these spared little thought for the families, and jumped right into the band-wagon in denouncing Huck as soft on crime, and a friend to criminals, or a bleeding heart Christian. (Funny...

When Maurice Clemmons, the man suspected of killing four Lakewood police officers, walked free from a Pierce County jail last week, it wasn't for lack of effort on the part of Washington officials to keep him behind bars.Documents released Tuesday show that a wide variety of state and local officials — everyone from prosecutors to sheriff's deputies to corrections officers — viewed Clemmons as a dangerous man, and wanted desperately to keep him in custody. But Washington officials encountered resistance from an unlikely source — their correctional colleagues in Arkansas. The acrimony has since become so intense, according to Pierce...

Under fire for commuting the sentence of suspected cop-killer Maurice Clemmons, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Tuesday called some of the criticisms “disgusting” and suggested they were attempts to score political points. “It really does show how sick our society has become that people are more concerned about a campaign three years from now than those grieving families in Washington,” Huckabee said during an interview on Joe Scarborough’s radio show. “It is disgusting, but people use anything as a political weapon.” Huckabee granted Clemmons, a suspect in the killings of four police officers in Washington state over the weekend,...

Maurice Clemmons was shot just above the belly button by a Lakewood police officer during a struggle at the Forza shop. The wound was stuffed with cotton balls and covered with duct tape, Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer told The News Tribune. "I am surprised he survived," Troyer said. Investigators believe Clemmons' sister and another woman triaged him and help transport him. Troyer said investigators had information Clemmons was hiding out in the Rainier Valley neighborhood. The Seattle police officer who killed Clemmons "stumbled into him," Troyer said. "He's lucky he's alive." Investigators were looking into whether Clemmons stole...

SEATTLE – They were shot execution-style: four police officers starting a shift on Sunday morning at a coffee shop in a suburb of Tacoma. The suspect, police say, is Maurice Clemmons, a man with a lengthy criminal record and a pattern of serious mental illness. As of this writing, he’s still on the loose. So it seems Mike Huckabee pardoned the dude who's suspected of murdering four cops in Washington state. Josh raps Huck a little. Still, it looks like the entire system bungled this one: News accounts say Huckabee commuted Clemmons' sentence, citing Clemmons' young age at the time the crimes were committed. But Clemmons remained on parole -- and soon after landed in trouble again. In March 2001, he was accused of violating his parole by committing aggravated robbery and theft, according to a story in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. He was returned to prison on a parole violation. But in what appears...
