An Arvada man says he doesn’t regret his actions after confronting a would-be carjacker outside the King Soopers at 58th and Independence in Arvada. About 12:30 p.m. on Aug. 28, Paul Heagerty says he feared the worst when a man walked up to him while he was putting away his groceries. The man threatened Heagerty with a gun. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to get shot,'” Heagerty said. The man demanded the keys to Heagerty’s car. He says seconds later, there was a gun pointed at his stomach. “It was surreal. When he pulled that gun, I...

On the fifth anniversary of the notorious spill of 3 million gallons of heavily contaminated acid mine water from the Gold King Mine in southwestern Colorado, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the State of Utah announced an agreement that ends the state’s lawsuit. Neither the EPA nor the contractors involved at the Gold King spill site are entirely off the hook for their alleged missteps that resulted in downstream damages. Lawsuits filed by the Navajo Nation, the State of New Mexico, and a group of Navajo farmers and ranchers have been consolidated, and discovery is proceeding, with a projected...

Denver, Colo., Sep 2, 2020 / 03:50 pm MT (CNA).- Both the Archdiocese of Denver and the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter are reviewing the situation of a priest who told Catholics to disobey the orders of Church and civic officials regarding masks at Mass and other religious services. In a video posted on YouTube Tuesday, Fr. Daniel Nolan told Catholics “do not obey the bishop, do not obey the governor. They cannot tell you to wear a mask. This is a lie. They are lying to all of us.” “If your bishop tells you, don’t do it. And I...

A woman on Monday violently assaulted a 12-year-old boy over a Trump yard sign. The Denver Post reported that Boulder police spokeswoman Shannon Aulabaugh said the woman was driving a moped when she spotted the boy on his bike and did a u-turn to confront him over the Trump sign. The liberal woman approached the boy and said something to the effect of “you want something to look at,” and used a closed fist to beat the boy in the back of the head and arms several times, and scratched him.

Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., on Sunday called for a Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation into the funding of recent violent protests that have sprung up across the country, echoing statements made by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who was recently attacked while with his wife during the Republican National Convention. "The Justice Department needs to open an investigation into who is funding these violent riots," Buck tweeted.Buck had first addressed the issue after Paul and his wife Kelley were accosted while returning from the RNC, on the way back to their hotel. Days after “social justice” riots erupted in downtown Denver last weekend, destroying businesses and launching fireworks at police, Colorado’s Democrat senator and its nominee to oust the state’s Republican incumbent have yet to condemn the political violence. Sen. Michael Bennet, re-elected in 2016, and former Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper, who is running to unset Republican Sen. Cory Gardner this November, have joined the vast array of Democrats turning a blind eye to the lawless unrest in their states while cities burn. “They brought weapons to the table. They had guns. They brought explosives, axes, machetes, and had one intent, purpose...

On Saturday, community members weighed in with a vote of support for Farmers Fresh. “I’m very, very thankful for it. I think now is the time to make your voice heard one way or another,” said Amos...

Colorado House Republican leader Patrick Neville and conservative commentator Michelle Malkin announced they're suing Gov. Jared Polis over the statewide mask order Wednesday afternoon The Democrat governor issued his executive order on July 16 to combat the spread of coronavirus. Opponents, mostly Republicans, have seen it as government overreach more than public safety. While Polis is the defendant, the lawsuit questions the constitutionality of the Colorado's Disaster Emergency Act, when the Colorado Constitution "clearly" separates powers between the legislative and executive branches, the plaintiffs said Wednesday afternoon. The legislative branch is supposed to create laws that the executive branch enforces,...

Congressional negotiators are considering whether NASA contracts awarded to Elon Musk's SpaceX represent a potential national security risk due to Chinese financial support for the billionaire owner's electric car company, Tesla. “What is there to stop them from going to Musk directly and saying, 'We'll call your line of credit early, unless you give us X, Y, or Z?'” said a congressional Republican aide involved in negotiations over the comprehensive legislation governing the space agency. “And, there's no real clarity that there's any kind of mechanism that would stop that other than good behavior by an individual.” The question underscores...

President Donald Trump will withdraw the nomination of William Perry Pendley as director of the Bureau of Land Management in the face of criticism over Pendley’s anti-environmentalist views and advocacy for selling off federal lands. A White House official confirmed the news Saturday, a day after Outdoor Life broke the story. The decision is almost certainly influenced by the awkward position in which Pendley’s nomination put Republican Sens. Cory Gardner (Colo.) and Steve Daines (Mont.) ― two close Trump allies facing tough reelection bids. Both earned rare points with the conservation community with the passage of a major public lands...

Within the high plains and Rocky Mountains of Colorado lies the world’s epicenter of COVID-19. New Jersey and New York have experienced enough COVID deaths per million citizens to place them first and second on the list of countries hardest hit by the virus if they were independent nations (each has experienced around 1,700 COVID deaths for every 1,000,000 citizens). Even so, they’re nothing compared to Colorado. Italy, at near 600 deaths per million, would be a welcome relief relative to the devastation that awaits Colorado. This is because, in Colorado, the governor and his advisors say their policies are...

Kanye West met with White House senior adviser Jared Kushner last weekend, according to a new report, after launching a presidential campaign that he has openly indicated was aimed at siphoning votes from Joe Biden. The artist announced a presidential campaign earlier this year that has faced significant legal battles amid reports of seemingly-identical signatures on petitions which West created for his name to appear on state ballots in the November election. He has received help from GOP operatives, and he reportedly “expressed comfort” with his campaign undermining the former vice president’s bid for the White House in a recent...
