  • Tacoma’s Manuel Ellis, like so many before him, didn’t have to die

The Tacoma News Tribune ^ | June 3rd, 2020 | By Matt Driscoll
Manuel Ellis died of respiratory arrest due to hypoxia. That means the 33-year-old black man was deprived of oxygen — or choked out — while being restrained in the street by Tacoma police officers, in handcuffs. In a nation already reeling from the murder of George Floyd and too many other black Americans, Ellis’ March 3 death amounts to a homicide, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s office concluded this week.

A Mexican lawmakers accidentally showed up topless in a government Zoom meeting — but later insisted she was “not ashamed” of having shown her body. Senator Martha Lucía Mícher Camarena, 66, said she had no idea she was still on camera when she stripped off to get changed during last Thursday’s meeting about the economy — only realizing when colleagues alerted her.

In recognition of everything that’s going on right now, LEGO’s actions for #BlackOutTuesday involved not just a $4 million donation to organisations devoted to racial equality, but a request for sellers to not advertise any sets involving police or the White House. As The Toy Book report, emails went out on Tuesday from Rakuten (who handle LEGO’s affiliate marketing) asking resellers to avoid promoting a long list of products that included police stations, police vehicles, a donut shop that included a police minifig and the excellent Architecture Series version of The White House (pictured above).

A heavily armed California man dressed like a National Guard soldier was arrested outside Los Angeles City Hall on Tuesday morning and has been booked on charges of impersonating a Guard member, media outlets report. Appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program, Pelosi claimed President Trump’s visit to the church burned by rioters was “exploitation” of the feelings of Americans who believe in the Bible . . . Pelosi then claimed that she got a call Monday night from her daughter, a “filmmaker journalist,” who was at the scene. Her daughter, Pelosi said, told her that, even though the protesters were peaceful, White House security was “using clubs to beat people” and shooting them with “little bullets that explode into stuff that burns your eyes”
  • Virginia governor to announce removal of Lee statue (Demolition of Monuments Avenue begins)

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam is expected to announce plans Thursday for the removal of an iconic statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from Richmond’s prominent Monument Avenue, a senior administration official told The Associated Press. The governor will direct the statue to be moved off its massive pedestal and put into storage while his administration seeks input on a new location, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak before the governor’s announcement.

We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial across the United States and parts of Canada testing hydroxychloroquine as postexposure prophylaxis. We enrolled adults who had household or occupational exposure to someone with confirmed Covid-19 at a distance of less than 6 ft for more than 10 minutes while wearing neither a face mask nor an eye shield (high-risk exposure) or while wearing a face mask but no eye shield (moderate-risk exposure). Within 4 days after exposure, we randomly assigned participants to receive either placebo or hydroxychloroquine (800 mg once, followed by 600 mg in 6 to 8 hours, then 600...

  • Biden proposed 'Police Officer's Bill of Rights' two months after Rodney King beating

    06/03/2020 2:51:04 PM PDT · by TigerClaws · 8 replies
Nearly 30 years before a bystander with a cellphone caught a Minneapolis Police Department officer restraining George Floyd with his knee on Floyd's neck, police in Los Angeles were covertly taped beating a criminal suspect. And Sen. Joe Biden, chairman of the Judiciary Committee, proposed legislation siding with police. The Police Officer's Bill of Rights, sponsored by Biden in May 1991, came halfway through his 36-year career representing Delaware in the Senate and while he was at the peak of his power on Capitol Hill. With Democrats in the majority, Biden headed the Senate committee with jurisdiction over criminal justice...
  • McEnany Pummels Jim Acosta With Facts About the Right Police Have to Defend Themselves

During a briefing Wednesday afternoon, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany explained to reporters, specifically CNN's Jim Acosta, that the police and other law enforcement officers have the right to defend themselves. Her comments came after the Trump administration was accused of having "peaceful protestors" tear gassed and physically removed from Lafayette Park on Monday evening. "No tear gas was used and no rubber bullets were used," McEnany explained. "No-one was tear gassed, let me make that clear. That's been confirmed by DOD and Park Services as well." "Let me go back and address what happened, there has been a...

Today, I received this email from DoorDash: [NAME REDACTED], Like many of you, I read about the inhumane murder of George Floyd and Amy Cooper’s abuse of privilege last week. With this latest injustice coming on the heels of the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and so many others over the years, my emotions have ranged from anger to sadness to depression. In the same week we were able to send two astronauts on a reusable rocket into outer space, we also witnessed some of the worst behavior of our humanity, juxtaposing two ends of our human capabilities. • U.S. State Department Shackles Target Maduro's Venezuela Kleptocrats

That Venezuelan socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro remains in power is a testament to his military's guns, secret police repression, torture of his pro-democracy opposition and the malign charity of four buddy dictatorships, Russia, Iran, Cuba and China. As late as January 2020, the month during which a Maduro ally hired fancy lobbyists to gull Congress into easing sanctions, the prospects for sending him into Cuban exile looked better. Bipartisan applause greeted Maduro's arch Venezuelan enemy, Juan Guaido, when Guaido attended the State of the Union address as a White House guest. Guaido was the president of Venezuela's National Assembly when...
  • Editor of progressive newspaper celebrated protestors—then they stormed and trashed her office

A news editor for a small, independent newspaper was in support of the protests-turned-riots, until they broke into the paper's office and she had to take cover from looters and vandals in the basement. Leigh Tauss, an editor for the progressive news outlet Indy Week in North Carolina, was stunned to find that the protesters-turned-rioters did not look favorably upon her business when they swept the area. She tweeted out on Saturday, saying "the crowd is extremely peaceful and groups and many are wearing masks and trying to keep distance." The crowd is extremely peaceful and groups and many are wearing masks...

(CNN)Dutch authorities believe a mink may have infected a human with Covid-19, and are instituting mandatory testing at all mink farms in the Netherlands. "On the basis of new research results from the ongoing research into Covid-19 infections at mink farms, it is plausible that an infection took place from mink to human," the Dutch government said in a statement late Tuesday night. "It also appears from this research that minks can have Covid-19 without displaying symptoms." The government said antibody testing of minks would be expanded to "all mink farms in the Netherlands and will become mandatory." The government...
  • Will Joe Biden Be America's Second Catholic President?

While the Republican Party has never nominated a Catholic for president, no Democrat has been elected president in the last 60 years without having the support of at least a plurality of Catholic voters, as measured by either an exit poll or Gallup's last preelection poll. In 1960, the last Gallup poll before the election showed John F. Kennedy leading Republican candidate Richard Nixon 78% to 22% among Catholics. Kennedy became the first Catholic president. In 12 of the 14 elections since then, the candidate who won the Catholic vote also won the White House. And Republicans Richard Nixon and...

On May 21, the CNN "Reliable Sources" newsletter mocked the governor of Florida under the headline "Stuck in his safe space: DeSantis hides on Fox." The governor holds press briefings to take questions from Florida reporters, but he hasn't said yes to CNN or MSNBC or CBS, all of which have requested an interview. To conservatives, this kind of shaming fails to address how the rest of the national media are a "safe space" for Democrats like Joe Biden. CNN would never consider a headline reading, "Stuck in His Safe Space: Biden Hides From Fox." On Friday afternoon, the presumptive...

Representative Eliot Engel (D., N.Y.) was caught on hot mic on Tuesday admitting that he only wanted to speak at a George Floyd rally because of his upcoming primary. The rally was led by Bronx Borough president Ruben Diaz Jr. Engel, whose district covers parts of the Bronx, has not returned from Washington, D.C., for months during the coronavirus pandemic. When Engel asked Diaz to be allowed to address the crowd, Diaz answered “there’s just too many folks here” who were scheduled to speak. “If I didn’t have a primary I wouldn’t care,” Engel said. Diaz, shaking his head, responded...

RUSH: I have made reference to the amount of lying that has taken place in the media in this country over the last — I guess we have to say four years. We’re into the fourth year of the Trump presidency now. He was elected in 2016, inaugurated 2017, it’s the fourth year, I sometimes go back and forth on three and four. But it may even be longer than that if you count 2016 as a campaign year. The amount of lying that has been engaged in by the Democrat Party and the American media, the Democrats in the...
