Pennsylvania Republican Senate candidate Kathy Barnette addressed several recent controversies over her record on Sunday, as she continues to surge in the polls ahead of Tuesday’s primary. Speaking with host Shannon Bream on “Fox News Sunday,” Barnette responded to criticisms about parts of her past that have come under fire in recent days, including questions about her military service record and insensitive tweets she had made in the past. She also blasted her primary opponents for raising controversy, claiming that they were “mad” because of her recent rise. “So I want to give you a chance to answer some of...

Yesterday a group of us discussed our prior military experiences, we had never met before and it was informal employment seminar for my business. I exclusively hire vets and being one, I know we are all capable of embellishing our careers with war stories. Amazingly, not one guy claimed to be a SEAL or Green Beret but, one woman in the group claimed that she was a former USAF Enlisted Tactical Air Controller. It just didn't smell right and I asked about her training. She said Keesler AFB. She couldn't "find" her DD 214. I told her I could go...

He claimed he was a Recon Ranger — there is no such thing as a Marine Recon Ranger, Rangers are in the Army. Retired US Navy SEAL Don Shipley, who is known for publicly outing people for ‘stolen valor,’ obtained Nathan Phillips’ DD-214 form and exposed the truth. Nathan Phillips was enlisted under the name Nathaniel Richard Stanard. “Nathaniel Phillips enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves on May 20th, 1972 and served until May 5th, 1976,” Don Shipley said as he read the DD-214 form. “He served under just four years and was discharged at the exalted rank of ‘Private'”...

Nathan Phillips likes to bang his drum and moan. He also likes to lie about his service in Vietnam. "You know, I’m from Vietnam times. I’m what they call a recon ranger. That was my role. So I thank you for taking that point position for me.” Here’s a piece from the Austin American-Statesman, November 23, 2000, page 16. “A Day of Mourning,” by Rowan Philp of the Washington Post.

Hello FReepers, my Mom is in deteriorating health, and we found out recently that her home health care insurance has a weekly cap. Dad served in the Army, to my understanding, during the Berlin Airlift and the beginning of the Korean War. We heard there is possibly Aid and Attendance help from the VA for my Mom, but that we need Dad's DD214 to apply for it. So, I engaged the services of a company that does this research, and just heard back that while they can find there is a valid service number for my Dad, his records have...

. . .Ernest Walker -who goes by the social media moniker of Ernest Blackbatman- was questioned by a Dallas,TX, Chili’s manager on the authenticity both his military service as well as his service dog. According to Walker’s post on Facebook, Walker was “approached by an old white guy, maybe in his 70s, with a Trump Shirt” who asked if Walker had been in the 24th Infantry Division, presumably because Walker was wearing the digital ACU uniform with the 25th ID patch on his sleeve. . . Walker then said that the elderly man “said he was in Germany, and that...

Forty years ago this summer, firefighters in St. Louis arrived on the scene of what would become an archive catastrophe unparalleled in U.S. history — a disaster that to this day is affecting military veterans and their families. Minutes after an alarm sounded on July 12, 1973, the firefighters reached the National Personnel Records Center, which held millions of official military files spanning the 20th century. They reached the burning sixth floor, but after a couple of hours had to withdraw because of the flames and heat. The inferno burned out of control for 22 hours, and it took two...

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) has worked to thaw once-icy relationships to advance his dream of passing climate change legislation. Perhaps the most important relationship in need of mending was with his partner in the climate change battle, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.). But Lieberman wasn’t the only crucial ally Kerry worked to win over. He also buried an old grudge earlier this year with T. Boone Pickens, the billionaire oil tycoon who funded an attack campaign against Kerry’s presidential bid in 2004.

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided the following website for veterans to gain access to their DD-214s online: http://vetrecs.archives.gov/ This may be particularly helpful when a veteran needs a copy of his DD-214 for employment purposes. NPRC is working to make it easier for veterans with computers and Internet access to obtain copies of documents from their military files. Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased former military members may now use a new online military personnel records system to request documents. Other individuals with a need for documents must still complete the Standard Form 180,...

Veterans, I have a question. An associate of mine cannot locate his DD214. I looked at mine to see where another could be retrieved, but didn't see anything about that subject. Do any of you know where this can be accomplished by a phone call? If not, a web address probably would work. He needs to prove his veteran status for a fairly sensitve line of work. Thanx. HOOAH!

I went to Kerry's website to look at his naval records today, and noticed something interesting. The only DD-214 provided is the one that discharged Kerry, for the purpose of accepting his commission as an officer. This is not the DD-214 that Kerry would have received upon his discharge after returning from Vietnam.

Had a thought tonight. Kerry is a Life Member of VVA (Vietnam Veterans of America). VVA fell out of VVAW. When folks join VVA, they are required to furnish their DD-214. I wonder if there is a copy of that lovely form anywhere on record in the VVA offices???? Anyone know???

Of the many charges against John Kerry's Vietnam record made by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, the Kerry campaign has managed to keep Mr. Kerry's Silver Star story above water. Chicago Tribune editor William B. Rood came out last week as an eyewitness to the events of Feb. 28, 1969, bolstering Mr. Kerry's version of events, as have official Naval records. Though Mr. Kerry has had to backtrack on at least two of his accounts -- the "Christmas in Cambodia" story and whether he really deserved his first Purple Heart -- the day when Mr. Kerry beached his swift...

The truely troubling failure/refusal of Kerry to release, without exception, his military records after he's made such a big deal about his weeks in Nam, has to permit folks to guess what is in them that he is hiding.First, it is important, because Kerry has emphasized these weeks as being the basis for his qualification to lead the nation (nothing else in his record since does). The focus has been on his falsification of events in 1968 and 1969. He never expected this and, as an arrogant elitist, didn't take early steps to defend against it.What Kerry has been worried...
