In a letter released last night from a former boyfriend of Christine Blasey-Ford, there was a name curiously not redacted. The name of Monica L McLean was revealed as a life-long friend who Ms. Ford helped with polygraph preparation. The media has begun to focus on the letter as outlining a lie told by Ms. Ford during recent congressional testimony… But the backstory to Ms. Monica Lee McLean is an even bigger story.

As the Senate awaits the results of the FBI investigation into the Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Jeff Flake, one of the lawmakers who spurred the inquiry, criticized the judge Tuesday for his recent appearance in the upper chamber. Speaking with Jeffrey Rosen, the president of the National Constitution Center, and Democratic Senator Chris Coons at The Atlantic Festival on Tuesday morning, Flake called the judge’s interactions with lawmakers “sharp and partisan.” “We can’t have that on the Court,” said the Arizona senator, who didn’t elaborate on which interactions he was referring to.

Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware predicted Monday that Republicans will “almost certainly” have to resort to the “nuclear” option to approve the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Coons, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which held four days of hearings on the Gorsuch nomination, doesn’t envision Democrats crossing party lines to vote in favor of President Trump’s nominee. “He will get an up or down vote. Sen. Schumer, our minority leader, has said it is going to be a 60-vote margin, and I doubt he is going to get 60 votes. The question...

Sabotage: During an interview on CBS News’ “60 Minutes” program Sunday, retiring GOP Sen. Jeff Flake made a startling admission that should get him plenty of hate mail from real conservatives. During a joint appearance with Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., the Arizona Republican admitted that he would have never thrown Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination into disarray like he did last week by insisting that, in exchange for his Judiciary Committee vote, the GOP leadership agree to a week-long investigation of the very bogus and uncorroborated sexual allegations made against him.

Sen. Chris Coons, Delaware Democrat, drew double-takes on the right Monday after insisting that the burden of proof lies with Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to prove his innocence. Ms. Coons said that Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez “have nothing to gain” and have put themselves “at legal risk” by accusing Mr. Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct in his teen years. “It is Judge Kavanaugh who is seeking a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court and who I think now bears the burden of disproving these allegations,” said Mr. Coons in a Monday interview on MSNBC, “rather than...

In the Democratic kangaroo court, the burden of proof is on the accused -- when he's a Republican. On today's MTP Daily, Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) proclaimed "I believe Dr. Ford and Deborah Ramirez," despite the lack of corroborating witnesses. They don't have to prove these allegations, the senator said: "It is Judge Kavanaugh who is seeking a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, and who I think now bears the burden of disproving these allegations, rather than Dr. Ford and Ms. Ramirez."Get the rest of the story and view the video here.

DEWEY BEACH, Delaware — Christine Blasey Ford grew up in Washington’s affluent Maryland suburbs, graduated from an expensive all-girls private high school and spent summers immersed in the wild nightlife of this Eastern Shore resort town. She went on to become a clinical psychology professor at Palo Alto University in California, having earned a psychology degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, master’s degrees at Pepperdine and Stanford, and a Ph.D. in educational psychology at the University of Southern California. But it was those early days — when she was known as Chrissy Blasey, a student at...

Donald Trump Jr. mocked Democratic Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) on Friday over a decades-old admission of domestic violence after the senator criticized a member of the White House staff. In a tweet, the president's son brought up Carper's 1998 admission that he once slapped his wife, giving her a black eye. The incident was reported in a 1982 New York Post article that claimed his wife's two children from a previous relationship "were slapped around and bruised by Carper for doing such things as leaving the family dog on the bed." Carper said late last year that he never lied...

I don’t know exactly what Norm Macdonald meant when he suggested Me Too has “slowed down.” But there’s some truth to his basic observation, and Joe Biden surfaced this week to remind us all why much of the public is less inclined to share the media’s boundless enthusiasm for the movement. Let’s first note that the great champions of women gathered at the Emmys on Monday dared not utter a direct word about Les Moonves (as flagged by Howard Stern). Had the allegations against him made their way into the New Yorker earlier in Me Too’s forceful first year, that...

DEWEY BEACH, Delaware — Christine Blasey Ford spent summers immersed in the wild nightlife of this Eastern Shore resort town. Longtime residents of Dewey Beach, a Delaware resort known in the late 1980s as a place where the college students who worked the other resorts lived and partied, still remember her nights waitressing at the Waterfront, a raucous bayside bar. “Things that would be considered out of hand today was OK back then. Things have changed,” said a man who encountered her during those years. “That was the yuppie period of time and Dewey Beach was a yuppie town and...

Have you heard about the airliner which was ordered back to the gate on 9/11 when the terrorist attacks began, only to have four young Arab passengers jump off the plane, after which box cutters and Al Qaeda documents were found in their abandoned bags? I’ve heard that story before, but since it was never reported by the U.S. government, and not mentioned by the 9/11 Commission in their official report, I thought it might be another of those urban myths. Until now. Yesterday’s Wilmington (Delaware) News-Journal featured a front-page article on the Delaware Air National Guard’s first female general,...

The Senate's most senior lawmaker said Tuesday he will skip the Israeli prime minister's speech to Congress next month on Iran, calling the invitation by Republicans without White House consultation a "tawdry and high-handed stunt." Related Stories Seven-term Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont joined a half dozen Democrats who have decided to boycott Benjamin Netanyahu's speech, which comes in middle of delicate negotiations involving the United States, Western powers and Iran over its nuclear program. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, invited Netanyahu to address a joint meeting of Congress on March 3. "The unfortunate way that House leaders have unilaterally...

The Democratic side of Congress is almost certainly going to look a little different after the midterm elections this year, as a result of the success of women and minority candidates in primary contests. Race by race, they've begun to make inroads into the traditional white and male establishment of national politics. The victory of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the Democratic primary against New York Rep. Joe Crowley -- a ten-term incumbent and the fourth highest-ranking Democrat in the House -- has been a beacon for other outsider progressive women and minorities trying to defeat entrenched Washington incumbents. **SNIP** Massachusetts' 7th...

Former Vice President Joe Biden was caught on camera calling a tracker for America Rising a “real prick” on Monday. In a short video posted to Youtube by America Rising PAC, Biden looks right at the camera and says, “you’re a real prick.” A woman in a white t-shirt near Biden appears to be trying to cover the tracker’s camera with her hand.

Shortly after Joe Biden boarded a recent flight from Washington to New York, a string of passengers began stopping at his seat in coach to deliver some version of the same message: Run, Joe, run. "We're with you," one said, according to a Democratic strategist who happened to be on the plane and witnessed the scene. "You've got to do this," said another. Biden himself is more conflicted — but he is listening keenly to the supporters pushing him to run for the White House in 2020. Biden is convinced he can beat President Donald Trump, friends and advisers say,...

And then there were the three who spoke on Friday. You had to control your gag reflex watching Vice President Pence, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) extol McCain’s greatness as he was accorded the honor of lying in state. Consider Pence for a moment. He began with a ludicrous declaration that broke all records for disingenuousness: “The president asked me to be here on behalf of a grateful nation, to pay a debt of honor and respect to a man who served our country throughout his life, in uniform and in public...
