... With the meat of the rut still ahead in some regions and lots of holiday hunting traffic sure to come, it’s a safe bet plenty more will surface before the season’s end. Virginia Luce’s 11-pointer isn’t the biggest buck reported from eastern Texas this season, but the story behind her Houston County whopper is arguably one of the most refreshing to come down the pike in quite a while. The veteran hunter from Kennard is a four-time cancer survivor who retired just two months ago after working for 25 years as a registered nurse. Luce hasn’t missed a season...

Imagine showing up for work in the morning, looking up on the roof, and seeing a dead deer. This is what happened to Stephen Wolota of Alleghany County, he shared the story and some photos of a dead deer on the roof of his work on a Facebook group page. The photo first appears as though the craziest of things could have happened with the building so close to the road. Immediately, I began thinking that a fast-driving tractor trailer must have hit this deer. I mean, how else could it end up dead on the roof? You can see...
  • Would you shoot a Non-Mortally Wounded Deer?

    Am Shooting Journal ^ | 10/18/2017 | B Smith
If you have hunted long enough, then you have seen a wounded deer make its way across a property. For most of us, I have no doubt that ethical hunters would put a deer down that was wounded severely if the opportunity presented itself. Just last year, a mortally wounded deer ran across our property line and it was quickly put down. It only took them 15 minutes later and the hunters who shot it came walking right through the field tracking it. They heard our shot so they knew right where it went. After a few pleasantries, they took...

Here’s a case many deer hunters have seen while hunting before having to make a split-second decision as to whether or not they should take this shot. Should you shoot a buck that’s clearly mounted on a doe or let it go? You make the call. Sporting men and women enjoy the fair chase and take the shot nature provides them. But sometimes, nature provides the unexpected shot. What would you do in this situation? Read the rest of the story and see the shoot a buck mounting a doe video here.

A 12-year-old making an incredible archery shot on a deer is quite a feat in itself. Now how about that same shot but arrowing two deer with a single shot? This incredible shot was caught on camera as proof. When Dan Cooley was on his first bow hunt at the age of 12 he made a remarkable shot that brought down two deer with only one arrow. Amazing shot Dan, and we hope you enjoy a long life with many hunts ahead. You are well on your way to being a master hunter. See the 2 deer in one bowhunting...

This hunter dropped a buck on the run with a quick shotgun blast. Check out this footage of a hunter in Norfolk County, Ontario, shooting a 12-gauge shotgun, make an incredible running shot on a big whitetail buck. Making that kind of running shot canÂ’t be easy, and thereÂ’s nothing like having a GoPro capture it all to remember it forever. In case anyone is wondering what he was shooting, this hunter Justin Walsh said: "I live and hunt in Norfolk County (Ontario). I was shooting a 12 ga. Remington 870 with the slug barrel, Winchester Super-X Sabot Slug...

you’ve got the Funniest Bow Hunting fail. We've all had those days in the stand when nothing seems to go right. It could be wind direction, out-of-range deer, or simply a missed shot. But if you think you've had some misfortune, try taking a look at this video without cracking a smile. (You’ll also realize your worst day wasn’t that bad after all!) Tim Wells was the man behind the camera as his wife took part in a tree stand deer hunt. With a doe standing directly beneath her, it looks like a done deal. But as you're about to...

Next time you take down a deer, maybe make extra-sure it's down before you tag 'em. See the rest of the joke here. See the rest of the joke here

Before heading out on a trek, hunters need to ask themselves a simple question: How many knives do I really need? When it comes to hunting knives, what do you really need? The question is straightforward, but the answer can become complicated by thoughts of what you want, rather than what you actually need. Personally, I own dozens of knives. They are great tools, and serve a range of purposes. But when I go afield, I keep it simple. On all the hunts I’ve been fortunate to embark upon around the world, I almost always take only one knife afield....

While participating in a party hunt, this hunter (John Oens) shoots 1 ten point and 2 eight point bucks in 35 seconds with an Ithaca Deer slayer III with a 20 gauge. The first buck is at the 200 yard range but the Hornady SST slugs does its job. This shooting skill is off the charts, try doing this on yourself. It’s difficult tasl to harvest two bucks in one hunt, much less three. The hunter and his uncle are driving the deer which forces them up on their feet and gives the hunters their shots. Though it seems like...

As hunters, we live for moments when bucks are active or vocal while in the deer woods. It is not always that hunters witness another buck kill one of its own. This bloody buck fight is a rare sight and hardly occurs much less in front of hunters. This hunter luckily took his video camera into the woods on the right day. One buck encroached on another buck’s does, and the older buck left no question about who was boss. See the footage here.

When coyotes pack up, big game is no match for these killers. Witness this stunning game camera footage of a whole pack of coyotes on the hunt. Seeing fewer deer this season? Well a coyote pack this size or larger just may be devouring your game. A single coyote is a formidable predator. Now, combine multiple coyotes, and their killing power increases to large game with no issues. At least eight coyotes by our count make their way down this trail in search of prey. Now, that is a team of killers with a swagger. See the video here.

A video raking in the views shows a 7-year-old Texas girl poised for two minutes with her hands on a gun the size of her before she pulls the trigger, killing her first deer. The little hunter, Lilly Klapper, looks on in awe before beaming at her bearded father, who exclaims "You got it" and high-fives her. The action begins around the 1:40 mark: Lilly shot the whitetail deer Monday in Central Texas with an AR style rifle chambered in 300 blackout, according to a video description. The family appears to live in Jacksboro, about 65 miles west of Denton,...

When it comes to a bowhunting kill shot, this hunter got this shot down. This is the best way to the shortest blood trail. The goal is to get any good hit in the vital organs. This hunter hits it in the pump and its not going far. What makes this shot so great is that putting an arrow past the back leg, behind the front, and right in the heart is both amazing and really fortunate. See the shot footage here.

Earlier in my years I had learned the skill of tracking, but as you know its a perishable skill. If you don't track much, chances are you wouldn't be a good tracker. My thought was that if I can track, this would help me track my game once its been hit with my arrow. What I didn’t know was where you hit your game matters in terms of being able to track it down or never finding it. As in tracking where you look for the tell tale sign within the bushes of where the game has gone. It's important...

Something isn't right with a buck nicknamed 'Big Nutz.' With a name like Big Nutz, it's pretty easy to guess how the deer got it's nickname. Jeremy Beck posted a video on Instagram that has the hunting community scratching their heads. Some think it's a tumor, while other think it's an STD of some sort. Regardless of the cause, it look painful and very uncomfortable. This buck could be the butt of about a million one line jokes, but we will leave it as that. What do you think is the cause of this abnormality? See the video here.
