Last Friday Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York signed a new bill seeking to crackdown on citizens offering their homes for short term rental through Airbnb. The law would impose fines of up to $7,500 simply for listing a rental on the popular site for travelers. North Carolina passed a bill making it illegal for men and boys who claim to be a woman to use female facilities. Places such as public restrooms, showers and locker rooms now will be off limits to these men. As I reported this bill was voted on in response to the anti-discrimination law that was passed by Charlotte city council. Edelman, the world’s largest public relations company, has decided not to continue working with certain environmentally unfriendly companies after receiving negative publicity, the Guardian reports. Edelman was recently criticized for working with fossil fuel companies and fake front groups that supported a Canadian pipeline project. They have since decided to stop working with coal producers, since they’re the biggest contributors to climate change, and groups that try to “greenwash” the truth and spread misinformation. Proposed South Dakota raw milk regulations will make it difficult for smaller operations to continue selling the substance in the state.  Department of Agriculture officials finished a third public hearing on the issue on Wednesday, saying the rules are necessary to ensure safety.  A legislative committee last August had rejected the rules until it had more information on their financial impact for farmers. The Environmental Protection Agency wants to dump more corn into your fuel tank this summer, and it's going to cost more than you think. The agency is expected to approve a request from 52 ethanol producers known collectively as "Growth Energy" to boost existing requirements that gasoline contain 10 percent ethanol to 15 percent. The change means billions more in government subsidies for companies in the business of growing corn and converting it into ethanol.
