Hedging against a protracted carriage battle with Fox News, Dish Network (NASDAQ: DISH) has signed an agreement to carry Glenn Beck's indie conservative channel TheBlaze. The move comes two weeks after 21st Century Fox pulled Fox News off the program guides of 14 million Dish subscribers. "Due to circumstances beyond my control, Dish has removed Fox News and given TheBlaze TV their spot in the channel lineup," Beck wrote on his Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) page over the holidays. "That means if you have Dish, you can now watch TheBlaze on channel 212 and channel 205, 100 percent free.

Furious Dish Network, Inc., customers are dropping the service, demanding refunds and besieging Dish with angry calls and emails after Fox News was dropped over a contract dispute. On Dec. 21, fans of the immensely popular Fox News, among the 14 million Dish subscribers, awoke to find out that their favorite network had been blacked out, Mediaite reports. To date, 178,000 complaint calls were made through a toll-free line Fox set up, and 140,000 emails have deluged Dish, but the dispute remains ongoing, Variety reports. The squabble involves "carriage fees" paid by providers to networks for programming. Dish claims that...

For the third time in a month, Dish Network customers are missing out on popular programming due to a dispute with a channel owner. This time it’s Fox News, one of the most popular cable channels in the United States. The channel disappeared from Dish’s lineup shortly after midnight Eastern time Sunday because Dish’s contract to carry Fox News expired before it could be renewed. It was still blacked out on Monday.

21st Century Fox and Dish pointed the finger at each other tonight as carriage talks between the two failed to produce a deal by midnight, resulting in Fox News Channel and Fox Business Channel no longer being available on Dish. Both sides blamed the other for the shutdowns. “It is disappointing that, after nearly two decades without a blackout, Fox News Channel has been blocked by Dish Network,” Tim Carry, EVP Distribution at Fox News Channel said late tonight. “We care deeply about our viewers and hope that they will regain access to the number one cable news channel soon....

Looks like DISH just axed the FOX News Channel. Liberals everywhere are probably ecstatic. I saw the logo and hear the crazy annoying music. They've been threatening on the air for days .. . so I guess it happened tonight at close to 11:00 p.m. Central Time.

In response to Comcast’s (CMCSA) $45 billion buyout of Time Warner Cable (TWC), Dish Network (DISH) has reportedly sent feelers out to rival DirecTV (DTV) about a possible combination of the two satellite television companies. The potential tie-up would marry the two largest U.S. satellite TV operators, creating a juggernaut with about 34 million subscribers. According to Bloomberg News, Dish Chairman Charlie Ergen recently approached DirecTV CEO Mike White about a merger. White is reluctant to go ahead with formal talks due to concerns about opposition from antitrust regulators, the news service said.

I cancelled my DishTV service then changed my mind. Called DISH and was told I have to wait 60 days. Seems they would want a customer to sign back up.

Al-Jazeera America signed on with a brisk hello from anchor Tony Harris before he got down to business with his network's first stories: continued turmoil in Egypt, shots fired at an Atlanta elementary school and more wildfires in the West. With that, the network entered the cable-news fray long dominated by CNN, MSNBC and Fox News Channel. The Qatar-based Al-Jazeera Media Network launched its U.S. outlet only eight months after announcing the new venture, which replaced Al Gore's Current TV in more than 45 million TV homes Tuesday.

Satellite TV provider Dish Network on Monday announced a $25.5 billion cash-and-stock bid for mobile phone company Sprint Nextel. The apparently unsolicited offer is an attempt to top the $20.1 billion agreement for a 70% stake in Sprint by Japanese tech company Softbank (SFTBF) in October. That deal was widely seen as giving Sprint a much needed cash infusion, one that staved off a possible bankruptcy filing that many investors feared.

I want "The Blaze TV" and I'm considering changing from Directv to either Internet driven by ROKU or Dish TV. I've seen Dish before and didn't like how hard it was to remove the channels you didn't like off the list you view to see what's current. I know nothing about ROKU, and would appreciate it if a ROKU user told me how they like it, how it works, what's available, and how much it cost per month. What other ways are there to watch the Blaze TV?

Dish Network Corp plans to close 300 Blockbuster stores in the United States in the coming weeks and could lay off as many as 3,000 employees, a move that comes days after the DVD rental firm's UK unit went into administration. Dish is trying to shed unprofitable Blockbuster outlets as online retailers like Amazon.Com Inc and download sites like Apple Inc's iTunes eat away at Blockbuster's business model. The potential job cuts represent about 40 percent of Blockbuster's U.S. workforce of 7,300 people. "We continue to see value in the Blockbuster brand and we will continue to analyze store-level profitability...

The three-ring circus known as the AMC/Dish breach-of-contract trial found another ring to perform in yesterday when a sobbing Dish executive stormed out of the courtroom after being insulted by the judge and then returned to yell at an opposition attorney and possibly physically rough up his father who was in a wheelchair. And all this happened after the judge ruled the hard drive on the executive's computer should be seized immediately because he suspects she's been deleting important evidence, according to the New York Post. Before we unspool the unbelievable and unkindly details from yesterday, allow us first to...

Starting at 5 p.m. Eastern time today, Beck’s channel, The Blaze, will be channel 212 in Dish Network’s 14 million households. It will be included as part of a 250-channel package, or available as a premium channel, for $5 a month, to those who receive a more basic package. In sheer dollar terms, the deal is big but not gigantic for Beck’s company. Dish will reportedly pay a “small” per-subscriber carriage fee, which likely means 5 cents to 10 cents per month per household. In its first year, then, the agreement will yield subscription revenues of less than $16 million. That’s not...

Blaze CEO Describes Move to DISH Network: ‘Everything Has Changed’ Posted on September 12, 2012 at 5:00am Christopher Balfe CEO, The Blaze Today marks the one-year anniversary of GBTV (now TheBlaze TV). When we launched, our stated goal was to deliver TV over the Internet, not Internet TV. And while streaming video over the Internet was not a revolutionary concept, nobody had ever tried to launch a brand new, online-only, HD-quality TV network before. But that’s Glenn—innovation and risk-taking are part of his DNA. Where others see impossibility, he sees opportunity. (That is one reason why the first-ever show to...

This is a bad, selfish use of FR bandwidth and I will admit that up front. However, I've searched the internet high and wide for a solution, to no avail. If you have DISH NETWORK, you might see a screen with the floating DISH logo and the words "press SELECT to continue." I cannot press SELECT, however, due to the fact that the dog chewed up the remote (5-7 days for a new remote to arrive). Is there anyway I can watch TV in the meantime? I looked on the DISH receiver itself for a SELECT button, but there is...

Dish CEO Joe Clayton raised eyebrows yesterday when he said the satellite TV service is "open" to being purchased by another company. "We're open to all possible options," Clayton told Bloomberg News after being asked about possible merger plans. "We could be acquired or we could be the acquirer." Clayton, who was interviewed at the Consumer Electronics Show, did say the company would be "open" to those options after it finished 'building out' its wireless spectrum and entertainment businesses. There has been speculation that Dish might be interested in buying T-Mobile. Clayton, a long-time executive in the satellite and TV...

Washington, D.C. (June 6, 2011) -- Dish Network customers: If you're getting free Starz channels as part of a year-long promotional offer, don't worry, you can still watch them for free. Reuters reports that a federal judge on Friday denied Walt Disney's bid to stop Dish Network from including such Disney movies as Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland in the offer. The judge did not explain why he was rejecting Disney's request for an injunction. However, Disney had filed a copyright infringement suit against Dish last month, saying it "devalued" its movies by including them in a giveaway...
