Military reunion videos tug at the heartstrings, even more so when that reunion involves a dog. Throw in the fact that the dog was actually a rescue that a deployed soldier in Iraq managed to get back to Florida, and even the steeliest of dark hearts would be hard pressed to survive the sight of the tail-wagging, face-licking joy of one obviously happy canine. The soldier was pretty happy as well. That's the case with a video of U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. Tracy McKithern, who took in a puppy that was wandering the streets near a base in northern Iraq...

Japan says lunar chasm measuring 50km long and 100 metres wide could be used as a base for astronauts and their equipment.Scientists have fantasised for centuries about humans colonising the moon. That day may have drawn a little closer after Japan’s space agency said it had discovered an enormous cave beneath the lunar surface that could be turned into an exploration base for astronauts. The discovery, by Japan’s Selenological and Engineering Explorer (Selene) probe, comes as several countries vie to follow the US in sending manned missions to the moon. Last night I went to bed without knowing how the most important election of my lifetime would end. I had my hopes that the people of this country would do the right thing and elect Donald Trump but like most here I had my hopes crushed more often than I care to remember. This morning I woke to Willie, my dog, my best friend, my companion, in distress. He was gagging and unable to stand. As he lay on the floor he lost control of his bowels and bladder and I knew that this was maybe the end. I quickly...

Petco said Monday it has removed all remaining Chinese-made dog and cat treats from its website and stores nationwide because of concerns they have sickened thousands of pets and killed 1,000 dogs in the U.S. since 2007. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says initial tests have not connected the Chinese jerky and rawhide treats to the illnesses, but the San Diego-based company and its rival PetSmart vowed in May to ban the snacks. Petco is the first national pet retailer to pull the treats from its 1,300 stores. Phoenix-based PetSmart Inc. said Monday that it plans to have them...
