Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., unveiled today his five-year path to a balanced budget, leaving several federal agencies behind. Among the items on the cutting room floor are the Departments of Education, Energy, Commerce and Housing and Urban Development. “There’s a lot of things in here that everybody could agree to, Republicans and Democrats, but nobody’s leading on the president’s side and on our side we felt we needed to put this forward to get the debate started, at the very least,” the freshman Senator explained at a Capitol Hill press conference this afternoon. The proposal also calls for the repeal...

Labour leader Ed Miliband today declared 'I am a socialist' and revealed he was tempted to join the violent student protests but was 'doing something else'. Mr Miliband said that although he did not condone violence, the demonstrations were fuelled by 'justified' anger about tuition fee rises. And he indicated that he was open in future to talking to those protesting on the streets, with marches and other protests set to continue. And, speaking to the Radio 5, he took the bold step for a modern Labour leader of embracing the socialist leanings of the party's pre-Tony Blair era.

The delusion starting to take hold of the liberal media as the midterm elections near is becoming more and more apparent with each passing day. Despite pictures clearly showing that Saturday's "One Nation" rally had far fewer attendees than August's "Restoring Honor" event, MSNBC's Ed Schultz claimed Monday the crowds were equal in size.

Ed Miliband is the new Labour leader, it has been announced at a special conference in Manchester. He beat brother David by the wafer thin margin of 50.65% to 49.35% after second, third and fourth preference votes came into play. Ed Balls was third, Andy Burnham fourth and Diane Abbott last in the ballot of MPs, members and trade unionists. Mr Miliband, 40, replaces acting leader Harriet Harman in the contest triggered by the resignation of Gordon Brown. He paid tribute to each of his fellow candidates in turn and told the conference: "Today we draw a line under this...

Gainful Employment limits options for students WASHINGTON, July 23 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In response to the Department of Education issuing a "Gainful Employment" rule today that would make certain career college programs ineligible for Title IV financial aid and effectively eliminate the opportunity for lower-income students to attend career colleges, Harry Alford, president of the National Black Chamber of Commerce issued the following statement. "Gainful Employment will disproportionately harm low-income and minority populations by discriminating against students who must borrow the needed tuition to attend college. Without financial aid, access to higher education will be limited for thousands of students. At...

The nursery rhyme “Rub a dub-dub, three men in a tub” could mean something incredibly different to grade school students in Helena, Montana if the public school system adopts a controversial sex education plan. At the center of the controversy is a desire by educators and special interest groups to begin teaching a pro-gay sex education curriculum to children as young as five years old. The debate over whether to teach and what to teach kindergarteners has been raging for years.

A revamped sex education curriculum that will see Ontario students learn about masturbation in Grade 6 and oral sex at age 12 this fall is a responsible way to teach children about a touchy subject, Premier Dalton McGuinty said Tuesday. Conservatives groups who are mounting a campaign to get rid of the revised program, which will see lessons taught as early as Grade 1, are accusing the government of corrupting young minds with sexually explicit material. Kids will learn about such topics anyway, whether it's from their friends or the Internet, McGuinty countered. By making it part of the curriculum,...

Maybe it’s because I live in Washington and am thus immersed in the daily political horse-race (who’s up? who’s down?), but it’s hard not to get the sense right now that the Democrats are in free fall. Evan Bayh’s retirement is like a major aftershock to the earthquake that was Scott Brown’s election. Now there’s talk about the GOP taking over both houses of Congress in the fall, and of a primary challenge to President Obama in 2012. To be sure, a month from now, and certainly six months from now, lots could change, and we might be talking about...

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Despite studies suggesting that erectile dysfunction drugs promote irresponsible sexual behavior, men who receive prescriptions for them are no more likely to engage in risky sex acts than men who do not receive prescriptions for the medications, according to a University of Florida study. “For this study we took the perspective of a doctor who may worry that prescribing erectile dysfunction drugs to patients could contribute to the spread of HIV,” said lead researcher Dr. Robert Cook. “The findings from this study should provide some reassurance to health-care providers that erectile dysfunction drugs appear to be prescribed...

Scientists are developing a new "super Viagra" cream that promises to act faster than the popular erectile dysfunction drug — and without the side effects. PerthNow reports the lotion is said to produce almost instant results, unlike anti-impotence tablets which can take 30 minutes to an hour before taking effect. Viagra and other drugs in the same class do this by blocking the effects of an enzyme called phosphodiesterase type 5.

To Ed’s millions of fans around the world, he was an entertainment icon who’s brilliant and colorful career spanned some 70 years and included work as a bingo caller in a traveling carnival...
