The other wide release this weekend is MGM’s Death Wish remake. The film was already delayed from Thanksgiving after the Vegas mass shooting and was lucky to not get delayed again after the latest mass-casualty school shooting just two weeks ago. [D]irected by Eli Roth and starring Bruce Willis, the film earned brutal pre-release reviews even outside of the cultural/political considerations. Fair or not, it's going to be a long time before it's the "right" time for a movie like Death Wish, especially one that doesn't update its politics or its demographics beyond an angry white guy shooting bad guys...

  • SJWs Melt Down over Bruce Willis’ ‘Death Wish’ Trailer: ‘Alt-Right,’ ‘Racist,’ ‘Nakedly Fascist’

MGM Pictures released the first trailer for its remake of the 1974 vigilante classic Death Wish on Thursday, featuring Bruce Willis taking over the lead role — but some critics and commentators have already branded the unreleased film “racist,” “alt-right,” and “nakedly fascist” over the short clip’s content. Willis stars as Paul Kersey, a surgeon on a brutal quest for revenge after his wife is murdered and his daughter is raped (Charles Bronson’s Kersey was an architect in the original five-film series). The remake also trades out the original film’s gritty New York City environment for contemporary Chicago. The trailer...

Leftists are slamming a new Bruce Willis movie as a “racist” “commercial for the NRA.” Opening this weekend, “Death Wish,” a remake of the 1974 film of the same name, stars Willis as Paul Kersey, a Chicago doctor who turns vigilante to exact his revenge on a group of men who murdered his wife and brutally attacked his daughter. Here’s a synopsis from RottenTomatoes: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures presents director Eli Roth’s reimagining of the 1974 revenge thriller Death Wish. Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of his city’s violence when it is rushed into...

This gut punch of a remake will drive SJWs crazy. That's just one of many reasons to see Eli Roth's latest. You won’t see a more subversive film all year than Eli Roth’s “Death Wish.” How can a remake of the 1974 vigilante classic be so bold? It’s simple. The remake doesn’t tinker with the vigilante formula beyond concessions to our digital age. No hand wringing, no attempts to bring social justice to the classic tale. The very last word you’d use to describe the new “Death Wish” is “woke.” The film goes much further, though. It gives a long,...

Eli Roth, the horror-movie director who created a film-within-a-film in the new picture Inglourious Basterds, was asked by Time Out New York about how the experience affected him: QUESTION: You directed a fake Nazi propaganda film that airs in the middle of Inglourious Basterds. Was that the most twisted thing you’ve ever made? ANSWER: I thought I had made some horrific movies before, but there I was, filming that propaganda movie, Nation’s Pride. The whole thing is this guy in a bell tower shooting American soldiers and it’s all supposed to be about the glory of Hitler and the power...
  • Slovakia Outraged by 'Hostel' (CLUELESS IN HOLLYWOOD ALERT)

Government officials in Slovakia have expressed their concern that new backpacker horror movie Hostel makes their country appear dangerous. The Eli Roth-directed movie, which shows three travelers heading to a Slovakian city and falling prey to a brutal torture ring, has caused outrage among the country's politicians, who feel it will tarnish their nation's reputation. Member of Parliament Tomas Galbavy says, "I am offended by this film. I think that all Slovaks should feel offended." Galbavy called Hostel, which was shot in the neighboring Czech Republic, "a monstrosity that does not at all reflect reality" and added it would "damage...
