At least five people were injured on the El Toro ride at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey on Thursday night, according to local police and parks officials. IRVINE, Calif. (AP) - One of the nation's biggest home builders will pay $1.05 billion to buy a former Marine base in Orange County after winning a six-week online auction. Lennar Corp. will build 3,400 homes on the land, while a section of the base is also slated to become one of the largest urban parks in the nation. Developer plans to bid for remaining two parcels at former El Toro base. Miami-based Lennar Corp. won two of the four El Toro parcels Wednesday and says it will aggressively pursue the other two. Lennar was unchallenged in bidding on parcels one and four, and the builder was the leading bidder as of last night on the other two. Because other bidders jumped in Wednesday on parcels two and three, those auctions will last at least until 3 p.m. today.

The Navy has set minimum bid prices and deposit requirements for the planned auction of the old El Toro Marine base, scheduled to begin Jan 5. The minimum averages range from about $125,000 to just under $300,000 per acre but are expected to ascend quickly although the federal government reckons it will fall short of the nearly $1 million per acre that Tustin air base land fetched.
