Mary Mapes is madder than a rained-out rooster, as her former boss, Dan Rather, might say. Mapes, the CBS producer who lost her job over last year's "60 Minutes II" story about President Bush's National Guard service, resurfaces with a reconstruction of that incident that savages just about everyone associated with it: conservative bloggers, the mainstream media, CBS and its chief executive, Leslie Moonves, the Texas Air National Guard, even a few members of the Dallas Cowboys of the early 1970s. Dan Rather reiterated to CNN's Larry King on Thursday night that he believes the memos, in his National Guard hit piece on President Bush, were genuine. Rather emphasized how "the documents were part of a fairly wide array of information we had" and were "supported by all kind of things other than the documents." There is this large email campaign to fire Dan Rather going on as many of you know. While I am angry at him and CBS for how they portrayed the "Killian" memos, I think they should not only NOT fire Dan Rather, I think they need to give him more air time. I, for one,would like CBS to FLOOD the television with Dan Rather broadcasts. Why...okay...follow my reasoning here. Everyone is mad at him. Everyone knows that he is a liar. Everyone knows he is completely biased. Everyone knows that CBS' ratings have tumbled in the past week...flood the airways...

I found this too funny to pass up. Glenn Beck, on his radio program today, revealed the story that CBS was GOING to run before bumping it to run the Bush Guard Memos story. You'll love this... The orginal story scheduled to air on that fateful Wednesday was a story on HOW the BUSH ADMINISTRATION could be duped by fake documents indicating Sadaam Hussein was trying to buy yellow cake from Nigeria! How could the BUSH administration be duped by fake documents?? Oh the irony! =)

This is too much! Now it is being reported that a few days prior to the fake memos segment aired, the CBS producer Mary Mapes spoke directly with the Kerry campiagn about it (specifically Joe Lockhart) and gave Lockhart the name and number of Bill Burkett, the source of the disputed documents. Apparently, Burkett would not turn over the documents UNLESS CBS arranged a conversation with the Kerry Campaign. It is being reported by major news outlets like FoxNews and ABC News now that Bill Burkett, the source of the fake memos, first sent them to the Kerry campaign before CBS even knew about them. The Associated Press obtained a copy of an email transmitted to a list of Texas Democrats about a conversation he had with Kerry campaign advisor, and former Senator, Max Cleland. The email to the Texas Democrats indicated that Burkett and Cleland spoke about information that would counter criticism of Kerry's Vietnam War service.
