WASHINGTON — As Democrats enter the fall midterm campaign with palpable confidence about reclaiming the House and perhaps even the Senate, tensions are rising between the White House and congressional Republicans over who is to blame for political difficulties facing the party, with President Trump’s advisers pointing to the high number of G.O.P. retirements and lawmakers placing the blame squarely on the president’s divisive style. Yet Republican leaders do agree on one surprising element in the battle for Congress: They cannot rely on the booming economy to win over undecided voters. To the dismay of party leaders, the healthy economy...

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said on Thursday that the video obtained by Breitbart News of a Google all-hands meeting following the election of Donald Trump obtained calls for a congressional hearing. “It’s time for [Google] to come into a hearing,” McCarthy told Family Research Center’s Tony Perkins on his Washington Watch radio show. “Google controls 90 percent of all Internet searches… They control what we’re seeing.” The video shows Google executives and staff bemoaning Trump’s election and making plans to thwart the president’s agenda using its massive online platform. “If they’re using their own personal beliefs when it...

President Trump fumed against the “fake news media” on Friday night when he resurfaced a blunder former President Obama made on the 2008 campaign trail. “When President Obama said that he has been to ’57 States,’ very little mention in Fake News Media,” Trump tweeted. “Can you imagine if I said that...story of the year!” He then tagged Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham. Former President Obama has returned to the campaign trail in recent weeks to criticize Trump and his policies, which Ingraham discussed on her Friday night show. Obama’s blunder, which Ingraham also resurfaced on her show, came in...

Today’s Campaign Update (Because The Campaign Never Ends) Was that a bad pun, or are you just really that dumb? – I swear I just heard a TV reporter standing in knee-deep water on a flooded street somewhere in North Carolina say, without a smile on his face or a trace of humor in his voice, “This is a fluid situation.” Let the Campaign Update take you on a walk through Bad Television History. – Incidentally, every time you see one of these reporters tell you “Whatever you do, do not go out into this weather!” while he himself is...

The Weather Channel voiced support for one of its reporters on Friday after a video of him reporting during Hurricane Florence went viral online. The video clip posted to Twitter appeared to mock the reporter's hurricane coverage, suggesting he was exaggerating the storm's force. The video shows longtime Weather Channel meteorologist and reporter Mike Seidel as he tried to gain his footing as the storm's winds bore down on him. "This is about as nasty as its been," Seidel, who was reporting from Wilmington, N.C., says in the clip while bracing against the wind. The camera then pans over to...

As Hurricane Florence continues to wreak havoc on the Carolinas, weather people and storm chasers are heading as close as they can to the eye of the storm without putting themselves in danger. One such reporter was caught on camera bracing for the storm ... a little too intensely.

WASHINGTON — Paul Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, agreed on Friday to cooperate with the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, as part of a deal in which he pleaded guilty to reduced charges. Appearing in United States District Court in Washington, Mr. Manafort entered guilty pleas on two charges. Andrew Weissmann, the lead prosecutor, told Judge Amy Berman Jackson that there was a cooperation agreement with Mr. Manafort.

Today’s Campaign Update (Because The Campaign Never Ends) So long, Cynthia, we hardly knew ye. And we’re really happy about that. – Bad actress Cynthia Nixon turned out to be an even worse far, far, far, far, far, far, far left-wing political candidate, as she got her whiny head handed to her in last night’s Democrat primary by ultra-corrupt New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. Nixon couldn’t even get up to Wendy Davis numbers, pulling just 34.5% of the vote in the race. What the results showed was not how much the despicable Cuomo is loved by New York voters, but...

A source who said they were briefed on the contents of the letter said it described an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman that took place when both were 17 years old and at a party. According to the source, Kavanaugh and a male friend had locked her in a room against her will, making her feel threatened, but she was able to get out of the room. The Guardian has not verified the apparent claims in the letter. It is not yet clear who wrote it.

Jeb Bush criticized President Trump's controversial tweets about the death toll in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. "Incredibly disheartening comments from our President," Bush tweeted Thursday. Trump beat the former Florida governor for the Republican nomination for president in 2016. Trump sparked controversy earlier Thursday when he tweeted that the estimated 3,000 death toll was intentionally inflated by Democrats. The 3,000 approximation comes from a George Washington University study that tried to total how many "excess deaths" occurred because of Hurricane Maria and would not have happened in the absence of the cyclone. Those involved with the study have emphasized...

Climate change is here now, and it’s time to urgently ask ourselves: What kind of future do we want to work toward? The air we breathe is key to answering this question. Global warming is not just manifesting in devastating fires, floods and heatwaves; its causes are impacting nearly every breath we take. A recent World Health Organization report said that nine out of 10 people on the planet breathe dangerous air, and an estimated 7 million premature deaths a year are caused by air pollution-related diseases, including stroke and heart disease, respiratory illness and cancer. The most vulnerable people...

basically fake news.... President Trump strongly criticized Bob Woodward's new book, "Fear: Trump in the White House," as "a total fraud," "work of fiction" and "totally discredited." But Woodward said he drew from hundreds of hours of interviews for his book, which is published by Simon & Schuster, a division of CBS. The book depicts a chaotic White House with details from participants and witnesses to the Trump administration. Asked whether he would release any of the interview tapes, Woodward told "CBS This Morning" on Thursday: "Well, if somebody really wants to challenge me, of course. Of course. But I...

US President Donald Trump is disputing official findings that nearly 3,000 people died in Puerto Rico as a result of last year's storms. "3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico," Mr Trump wrote on Twitter, without offering evidence for the claim. He accused Democrats of inflating the official death toll to "make me look as bad as possible". The official figure was released last month after an independent study. On Thursday, Mr Trump tweeted that Democrats were attacking him "when I was successfully raising Billions of Dollars to help rebuild Puerto Rico". The Republican...

The Evening Campaign Update (Because The Campaign Never Ends) Well, this was pretty much inevitable, wasn’t it? Last week’s tireless effort by Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats to put a Borking on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh failed miserably. Every lie, every deceitfully-edited video, every empty threat, every “I am Spartacus” moment ran up on the shoals of reality and truth. The nominee’s eloquence and composure through all of that plus an endless array of leftist nutjobs who had been paid to disrupt the proceedings ended up enhancing the public’s opinion of him and damaging the presidential hopes of political circus...

Democrats and the media have been pounding President Donald Trump over the past few days, as Hurricane Florence nears the Carolinas, over his alleged insensitivity to deaths in Puerto Rico last year from Hurricane Maria. On Thursday morning, President Trump pushed back on Twitter, alleging that Democrats had inflated the death toll “in order to make me look as bad as possible.” That led to more criticism, with the Associated Press accusing Trump of making claims “without evidence.” But Trump is correct. His opponents — including the media — have strained for more than a year to turn Hurricane Maria...
