A Minnesota man has been fined $12 million for helping set fire to a police station during a protest last summer following the death of George Floyd. Dylan Shakespeare Robinson, 23, pleaded guilty in December to one count of conspiracy to commit arson. He was accused of lighting a Molotov cocktail that another person threw at the Third Precinct headquarters in Minneapolis. He now faces four years in prison and a whopping fine for the damages to the police station -- a penalty Robinson’s lawyer argues he will never be able to pay. "On the night of May 28, 2020,...

IOWA CITY, Iowa — In a room 12 stories above the emergency department where he has been caring for COVID-19 patients over the last nine months, David Conway, 39, Monday morning became the first person in Iowa to receive a vaccine for the novel coronavirus since its emergency authorization Friday. Conway, a University of Iowa Health Care emergency department nurse for four years, said he didn’t hesitate when asked if he’d be willing to get the vaccine on day one on the UI’s medical campus. “Of course I am,” Conway said, seconds before choosing his left arm and holding still...

The United Nations has joined the World Economic Forum (WEF) to announce a global coronavirus news service, declaring the time has come for “new social norms” that seek out and correct “wrong” information.Observing that social media is a mechanism for driving opinion on a host of issues, the two globalist organizations announced Thursday they want to “combat dangerous misinformation.”“When COVID-19 emerged, it was clear from the outset this was not just a public health emergency, but a communications crisis as well,” Melissa Fleming, chief of global communications for the United Nations, said.“We’re trying to create this new social norm called...

Jarad Bentley and Brady Williams knew they would get in trouble. But that didn’t matter to the teenagers from Morrow, Ohio. In their hearts they knew they were doing the right thing. And that’s all that mattered. The boys had asked permission to carry flags honoring the police department and the fire department onto the field during the September 11th football game at Little Miami High School. Jarad’s father is a firefighter. Brady’s dad is a police officer. They wanted to honor first responders on the 19th anniversary of the Muslim terrorist attacks. EDITOR’S NOTE: Social media is cracking down...

New York City — Dangling 16 stories over a Harlem sidewalk, Brian Quinn may look like a Hollywood stuntman, but this is no movie. The New York City firefighter was caught on camera trying to save a woman trapped on a ledge outside her burning apartment. "She was very frantic. She was screaming she was going to die," Quinn told CBS News. "She did not want to let go." It's the first time in years the department has resorted to a dangerous technique called a rope rescue. "I was scared," Quinn explained. "When you're up that high, it's scary." The...

After the crash of a helicopter carrying Kobe Bryant and several other people last year, a bit of a scandal erupted when it was determined that one of the sheriffs responding to the scene had taken photographs of the wreckage and the bodies of the victims. Those photos leaked out into the public over social media, causing distress to the families of some of the victims. But while certainly a tasteless thing to do, it wasn’t technically illegal so there wasn’t much to be done about it. That will change in the near future if a new bill introduced in...

Gavin Newsom seems to be making an ultimatum to the federal government: He says if California doesn’t receive more federal assistance, first responders, including healthcare workers and police, could be the first to be laid off. . . . Newsom’s announcement comes on the same day his state is kicking off a program to provide coronavirus relief to illegal aliens. The state is chipping in $75 million to give families up to $1,000, with philanthropic groups expected to contribute another $50 million, bringing the total to $125 million for what the California Department of Social Services estimates will help close...

Those sonic booms heard this morning over the Bay Area were not from the Blue Angels practicing their Fleet Week routine months early, but rather a tribute to those risking their lives during the coronavirus pandemic. On Wednesday morning shortly before 11 am, four California National Guard F-15C fighter jets flew over the San Francisco Bay Area as part of Operation America Strong. The purpose of the flyovers was to recognize frontline personnel dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which includes essential personnel, healthcare workers and first responders. "A lot of blood, sweat, and tears have gone into...

New York state issued a blanket do-not-resuscitate directive last week instructing first-responders not to try to revive patients without a pulse amid increased call volumes and lack of resources during the coronavirus public health crisis, according to a report. Paramedics were previously told to attempt to resuscitate a patient found in cardiac arrest for up to 20 minutes, the New York Post reported. The new order is “necessary during the COVID-19 response to protect the health and safety of EMS providers by limiting their exposure, conserve resources, and ensure optimal use of equipment to save the greatest number of lives,’’ according to a memo issued last...

As the state remains under a stay-at-home order during the COVID-19 pandemic, first responders are among those who are on the front lines. The Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory has donated more than 50,000 cookies to San Francisco, Alameda and San Mateo county first responders this week. The company posted photos of the cookies on their Instagram and said, “COVID19 is tough, but we are tougher and like my fortunes, we will persevere.” To thank the healthcare workers, the company also sent cookies to UCSF Oakland Benioff Children’s Hospital for the staff and doctors. More cookies will be sent out...

Irish-born MMA champion Conor McGregor has donated $1 million to a New York foundation that supports the families of first responders to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. McGregor announced he is making the donation to New York’s Stephen Siller Tunnel to Tower Foundation, which supports the families of firefighters and law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty across the US. We thank you Lord for the freedoms we have as Americans. We thank you for this great country founded on basic principles such as Liberty and Justice for All. Over these many years our nation – under God – has had our freedoms attacked and we have had to fight and defend our rights and our freedoms as Americans. And today – this day – we set this time to honor the men and women who have been at the forefront of the battles to keep America free. We honor our veterans. Former NYPD Detective Luis Alvarez gave a passionate testimony before Congress earlier this month urging lawmakers to restore the 9/11 Compensation Victims Fund, which is set to expire next year. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 53 on Saturday. Alvarez was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in 2016. The illness was reportedly related to the three months he spent searching for survivors and remains at Ground Zero shortly after the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on the World Trade Center. “Please remember his words, ‘Please take care of yourselves and each other,’" Alvarez's family said in a statement. "We...

Jon Stewart is best known as a comedian and former host of "The Daily Show." Virtually all talk show hosts draw from the well of politics. But Stewart's tenure took that to a new level, and he made no bones about his distinctly progressive leanings. Stewart is talented and intelligent, and his riffs on politics and political figures are funny (whether you share his political views or not). He is already a household name. But Stewart gave the monologue of his life yesterday in front of a congressional subcommittee charged with finding additional financial support for the Sept. 11 Victim...
