<p>When I got up this morning, I noticed that FR is back up but couldn't find a thread explaining why this latest outage on such a big day. If the reason for the outage has been mentioned on another thread, please link it.</p>

Our FRiends have inspired us, made us laugh and think, and (may I say?) helped us feel a little less lonely and despondent these past eight years. For all our arguments, diversity of thought, and passion, Jim and his crew really do keep the light of freedom and constitutional consciousness alive. Anyone know what happened to the site this morning? A DDOS attack perhaps?

I was surfing FR this afternoon and suddenly was unable to access any page on FR and the error stated the server could not be found. I located the IP address, 209.157.64.200, of the server and then added an entry into my PC's host file and I can now see FR again. I still do not see a DNS entry for FR, and that is interesting.

So I noticed a bunch of people have been able to find the trick to getting to FR using the IP in their browser, but can't log in. Here's a step-by-step guide for Windows on how to log in. How do I deactivate my account?

Many have remarked on the messed up fonts now appearing in so many posts. This can be avoided, though it is a bit of a bother. These bad fonts stem from cutting and pasting apostrophes (') and quotation marks ("). The marks produced from cutting and pasting these marks has always looked different from those caused by hitting the key on one's keyboard. Up until now, though, when posted they have been turned into apostrophes and quotation marks. That is no longer happening. While typing the marks on one's keyboard continues to work fine, cutting and pasting them does not....

It has become more difficult to read posts on Free Republic lately. Strange characters are appearing in text that has apostrophes or quotation marks. If I copy and paste text that contains apostrophes or quotation marks, from another website, when I Preview or Post the copied text into a Free Republic thread these strange characters appear. Has there been a recent change in the coding here that is causing this? Anyone know?

Much to my surprise this evening, I fired up Google Chrome to come to FR and was blocked with a warning that FR contained Malware. Chrome wouldn't let me access FR as a result. Firefox did the same thing. God help & forgive me, but I then had to use the dreaded Internet Explorer to access FR and view posts. Anyone else having this problem? (Well, if you are you're obviously not here are you!)
