In a stunning upset, Seth Grossman won the Republican nomination for Congress in New Jersey’s 2nd district on Tuesday night, emerging from a crowded primary race to replace retiring Rep. Frank LoBiondo. Grossman, a former Atlantic County freeholder and Atlantic City councilman, received 40 percent of the vote as of 10:30 p.m., according to The New York Times. Hirsh Singh, a South Jersey engineer who was the perceived frontrunner of the race, had nearly 31 percent. Former Assemblyman Sam Fiocchi followed with 22 percent of the vote, while former FBI agent Robert Turkavage had 7 percent.

Three Republican lawmakers have asked Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to facilitate their visa applications to visit Iran, where they want to observe "Iranian democracy in action," meet with imprisoned Americans, and visit nuclear facilities. Republican Rep. Frank LoBiondo (N.J.) received heavy criticism from a Tea Party activist at a recent town hall meeting in his district. In a YouTube video, the eighth-term congressman is grilled on his knowledge of the Constitution after he misstates the content of Article I Section I of the document. The man who criticizes LoBiondo's knowledge of the document is donning a "Don't Tread on Me" t-shirt, a Revolutionary War slogan popular among Tea Party activists.

House Democrats were surprised at the number of Republican votes they won on the razor close climate change vote, which allowed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to let a few more Democrats cast their own no votes.
