  • G-7 to throw out another $200 billion for third-world 'green' boondoggles: Exporting the "German model" of green energy failure

Amid all the partying and gladhanding and making Vladimir Putin a figure of fun, the G-7 summit in Germany managed to avoid the important topics, such as where the hell greenie Germany is going to get energy from and just what it means when it says it's going to support Ukraine forever. Instead, it moved into its comfort zone, which was "infrastructure" and greenie energy for the Third World, as if the Third World needed more corruption and energy shortages, as greenie Germany is experiencing. Naturally, its idea was to throw money — mostly American money — at the problem....

Something is wrong with President Joe Biden, and everyone knows it. But it would at least be nice if the president knew what he was talking about. Biden’s handlers came up with a new way to deflect when Joe has one of his “cognitive spells,” he simply fluffs it off with a self-deprecating joke, and the audience awkwardly laughs. The entire “Alzheimer’s moment” is just laughed off, and brushed aside as if it’s some normal, everyday occurrence. However when he needs to face reporters his handlers are doing everything they can to remove the reporters or to keep them quiet!

Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) began three days of talks on Sunday in Germany's Bavarian Alps with Russia's invasion of Ukraine set to dominate the agenda. One of the first announcements was a $600 billion (€568 billion) infrastructure initiative to help developing countries tackle climate change. The initiative is seen as the West's response to China's massive Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). "I want to be clear — this isn't aid or charity," Biden said. "It's an investment that will deliver returns for everyone, including the American people and the people of all our nations. It will boost...

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President Joe Biden are set to discuss with the leaders of Canada, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom proposals to increase pressure on Russia and extend support for Ukraine. The sharp rise in food and oil prices across the world, as well as inflation, are also on the leaders' agenda. Other democracies — Argentina, India, Indonesia, Senegal and South Africa — have been invited to participate in...

President Biden plans to travel to Europe to attend the Group of Seven (G7) leaders’ summit and a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) gathering later this month, the White House announced Wednesday. Russia’s war in Ukraine, which has entered its fourth month, is likely to figure high on the agenda for both meetings. “The President and G7 leaders will discuss a range of the most pressing global issues, including the G7’s unwavering support for a democratic, sovereign, and prosperous Ukraine, economic and democratic resilience, tackling the climate crisis, development infrastructure, global health security, and the food and energy crisis caused...

BERLIN (AP) — Officials from the Group of Seven wealthy nations announced Friday that they will aim to largely end greenhouse gas emissions from their power sectors by 2035, making it highly unlikely that those countries will burn coal for electricity beyond that date. Ministers from the G-7 countries meeting in Berlin also announced a target to have a “highly decarbonized road sector by 2030,” meaning that electric vehicles would dominate new car sales by the end of the decade. And in a move aimed at ending the recurring conflict between rich and poor nations during international climate talks, the...

The US and other G7 countries vowed to defend Ukraine’s “sovereignty and territorial integrity” on Sunday’s 77th anniversary of Germany’s World War II defeat — as Russian despot Vladimir Putin boasted of erasing Ukrainian “Nazi filth.” Leaders of the Group of Seven — the US, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, the UK and Japan — made the pledge in a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Joe Biden raised the stakes with Russia over its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by warning that Nato would be forced to respond if the Kremlin resorted to using chemical weapons. Speaking in the aftermath of emergency Nato and G7 summits in Brussels, the US president said that any retaliation would be proportional, though he would not confirm that he would insist on military action..... “We would respond,” Biden said, in response to a question about what Nato would do. “We would respond if he uses it. The nature of the response would depend on the nature of the use.” The...
  • Can BRICS De-dollarize the Global Financial System?

    03/01/2022 1:34:14 PM PST · by nickcarraway · 28 replies
Summary Existing scholarship has not systematically examined BRICS (Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa) as a rising power de-dollarization coalition, despite the group developing multiple de-dollarization initiatives to reduce currency risk and bypass US sanctions. To fill this gap, this study develops a 'Pathways to De-dollarization' framework and applies it to analyze the institutional and market mechanisms that BRICS countries have created at the BRICS, sub-BRICS, and BRICS Plus levels. This framework identifies the leaders and followers of the BRICS de-dollarization coalition, assesses its robustness, and discerns how BRICS mobilizes other stakeholders. The authors employ process tracing, content analysis, semi-structured interviews, archival research, and...

The Group of Seven economic powers told Russia on Sunday to “de-escalate” its military buildup near the Ukrainian border, warning that an invasion would have “massive consequences” and inflict severe economic pain on Moscow. Foreign ministers from the United States, Britain and the rest of the G-7, joined by the European Union’s foreign affairs chief, issued a joint statement declaring themselves “united in our condemnation of Russia’s military buildup and aggressive rhetoric towards Ukraine.” The G-7 called on Russia to “de-escalate, pursue diplomatic channels, and abide by its international commitments on transparency of military activities,” and praised Ukraine’s “restraint.” “Any...

Kazimierz Woycicki, a specialist on Eastern Europe at the University of Warsaw, says that there are six possible scenarios for Russia’s future. From Moscow’s perspective, four are disastrous; and two are more hopeful although apparently in the Polish scholar’s view less likely. The four negative scenarios, he suggests, include “the territorial disintegration of the Russian Federation,” “the gradual but peaceful falling apart of Russia,” “the Balkanization of Russia,” and “the fall of Russia under the influence of China” (k-politika.ru/mrachnye-prognozy-v-polshe-raspisali-shest-scenariev-budushhego-rossii). The two more positive ones at least from the perspective of the Russian leadership at the present time, Woycicki argues, are...

A recent sighting of Putin’s notorious Buk missiles on their way to the frontline does not bode well for talks A flatbed rail wagon speeding through south-west Russia last week carried an ill omen for negotiations to avert a larger war with Ukraine. On board was a Buk-M1, the kind of medium-range surface-to-air missile system that became notorious in 2014 after a missile fired from territory controlled by Russian proxies in eastern Ukraine shot down a Malaysian airliner, killing all 298 people aboard. If Russia goes to war in Ukraine, it still needs to take a number of steps: establishing...

Blinken met with his counterparts in the G7 countries over the weekend in Liverpool, England, about Moscow’s enormous military buildup on Ukraine’s eastern border that many see as a prelude to an imminent invasion. “They are equally resolute in their determination to stand against Russian aggression, to ideally deter it, prevent it. And we’ve made clear as well that there would be massive consequences if Russia commits renewed acts of aggression against Ukraine,” Blinken said Sunday during an appearance on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.” America’s top diplomat said the Biden administration seeks to have a “stable, predictable relationship” with...

The United States and its other G7 allies are searching for a coherent response to Xi's growing assertiveness after China’s spectacular economic and military rise over the past 40 years.
