The media frenzy over Republican Senators and Barack Obama making nice over the debt ceiling crisis exposes for all Americans to see the extent to which both parties are aligned with Wall Street interests, and against the interests of Main Street and small business. The subject of this latest bipartisan love fest is the Gang of Six plan. Americans want reform. The Republican majority in the House of Representatives was swept into office by promising reform. The Gang of Six Solution is the antithesis of reform. Supposedly it offers the "balanced approach" of which Obama rambles on about endlessly. But...

And, by the way, a little history question. Do you know where this "gang of" stuff started, in our lifetimes at least? I'm sure that there have been gangs in the history of humanity, but in the political realm, the original gang was Gang of Four. Mao Tse-tung's wife, a ChiCom broad, led a Gang of Four in an anti- something or other movement. So a cultural revolution equaled murder. And Mao's wife, Mrs. Mao, led the Gang of Four against it. So this "gang of" crap can be traced back to the original brutal, murderous ChiComs.

“Proposal” might be giving it more credit than it deserves at this point. Right now, the Gang of Six entry into the deficit reduction/debt ceiling debate better resembles a statement of principles with few specifics, which is one reason why no one expects the Go-6 to have a bill ready for a vote for weeks or perhaps even months. Barack Obama has already begun hedging his “no short-term debt ceiling increase” pledge in order to accommodate the Go-6 team. Right now, there isn’t even enough specifics for the CBO to score the plan to determine whether it actually accomplishes what...

Some Republicans are getting desperate over the debt-ceiling debate, but we hope not desperate enough to embrace the Gang of Six proposal. It may be the worst of the debt-ceiling compromises placed before them to date. The authors allege that their plan will eliminate some $3.7 trillion from the projected federal deficit over the next decade — and allege is the right word. The main deficit-reduction instruments would be a $1.2 trillion tax hike and deep cuts to defense spending. Neither of those proposals addresses the fundamental long-term spending drivers, which are the entitlement programs, mainly Social Security and Medicare....
