The first significant lake-effect snow of the season dropped nearly a foot of snow near the shores of the Great Lakes Tuesday into Wednesday. The snowfall was enough to transform parts of Michigan's Lower Peninsula into a winter wonderland and break into the record books at one weather station in Michigan. Snow totals topped 11 inches in northern parts of northern Michigan. Gaylord, Michigan, picked up 11.7 inches of snow on Tuesday, which set a record for the heaviest snowfall in a calendar day in November. That amount also ranked as the sixth highest single-day snowfall in any month. Records...

On July 20, 1969, most Americans were consumed by the event of a lifetime: the Apollo 11 lunar landing. The Giants were no different. Giants groundskeeper Matty Schwab found space in his work area underneath the right-field grandstand at San Francisco’s Candlestick Park to plug in a black-and-white television set. Schwab’s hidden headquarters was close to the double doors adjacent to the Giants’ bullpen. So, thanks to Schwab, Giants relievers could sneak peeks at history during the early innings of San Francisco’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Right-hander Bob Bolin was among the Giants with divided attention. As he...

SAGINAW, MI – When police executed search warrants at three Catholic Diocese of Saginaw properties last year during an investigation into claims of sexual abuse of minors, documents show they seized nearly 60 items of evidence. Among them, located in the bottom drawer of a filing cabinet at diocese headquarters, was a file labeled “victim list.” That information is contained in search warrant paperwork detailing what police seized during the March 2018 raid. The paperwork was recently unsealed and copies were obtained by MLive and The Saginaw News. The list of confiscated property shows investigators took 57 items during the...

A group of leftist activists wearing pink pussy hats disrupted a Christian opening prayer at Rep. Jack Bergman’s (R-MI) Thursday evening town hall in Gaylord, Michigan, shouting, “Separation of church and state!” as other constituents stood with their heads bowed in respect. Dr. Derek Hagland, the assistant pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Michigan’s First District, had just taken the stage to recite an invocation when activists began chanting, “Separation of church and state!” to disrupt him: “This guy was giving invocation,” Rep. Bergman’s communication director Farahn Morgan told Breitbart News. “He was not necessarily party affiliated in any way....

NASHVILLE, Tenn., -- The Tennessee Department of Labor is preparing for the mass layoff of 1,700 Gaylord employees. The department is taking steps now to prevent thousands of others already looking for jobs from being affected.

Anyone who’s ever had to call the Tennessee unemployment hot line knows it can sometimes be tough to get through. Now think about adding 1,700 more people suddenly unemployed. Romona Pasimio and her daughter worked in a restaurant at the Gaylord Hotel until the flood literally washed their jobs away. This past Wednesday they, along with hundreds of others learned that on June 12 they would officially be fired, walking away with two weeks final pay and health benefits through September.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Gaylord Entertainment Co. is being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission over the company's revised financial statements after it changed auditors, officials said Thursday. Notice of the investigation was included in the second quarter earnings report by Gaylord, a hotel and entertainment company. SEC investigators will examine financial results and transactions that led Gaylord to restate earnings for 2000, 2001 and the first nine months of 2002, the company said. The restatements reflected non-cash changes, including accounting for Gaylord's income tax accrual and the company's investment in the National Hockey League's Predators team. Gaylord broke...
