Two Border Patrol agents from the El Centro Sector were assaulted by illegal aliens near downtown Calexico early Friday morning. According to Agent Keith A. Croxton, of the El Centro Sector Public Affairs Office, at approximately 2:30 a.m., agents were attempting to rescue three illegal aliens from the All American Canal, which is located approximately three miles west of the U.S. Port of Entry at Calexico, Calif., West, when the assaults occurred. “That area is one of our most dangerous areas when it comes to assaults on agents,” Croxton said. “They get rocked there quite frequently.”

Mexican authorities have confirmed several shootouts through the streets of Matamoros, while U.S. authorities confirmed the temporary closing of two international bridges. The shootouts took place late Monday night and early this morning for approximately two hours between the Mexican Military and various groups of armed gunmen from both the Gulf Cartel and the Zetas, said a Mexican law enforcement official who asked that his name not be released citing security reasons. The shootouts were reported in various areas as the gunmen fought and moved spraying the streets with gunfire and multiple grenades. The areas where the shootouts took place...

FRONTON - A man says a bullet from a gunbattle in Mexico hit one of his trees. "My friend was right here beside me. We could hear everything happening on the other side," said Julio Guerra of Fronton. Guerra listened to two hours of gunbattle. While it was happening in a different country, it was within a couple miles of his bedroom window. "I'm not scared," said Guerra. The Guerras have lived in Fronton for many years. He's grown accustomed to the noise on the other side of the river. "Me and my wife have been living here a long...

It appears tonight that several neighborhoods in Nuevo Laredo are once again sounding like war zones. We've received lots of phone calls tonight from viewers saying they hear gunshots and explosions across the border. Laredo Police say the battle appears to be near Parque Viveros. That's the area near the sports complex where a grenede went off on Monday. We sent our Annette Garcia high atop the Rio Grande Plaza Hotel to see what she could see and hear from that vantage point.

Mexican authorities are blaming a captured Zetas drug cartel leader as being the mastermind behind an attack on an American Consulate in Monterrey. The Mexican Army (SEDENA) captured Hector Raul Luna-Luna during an operation in Monterrey on Wednesday. Authorities reported that Luna-Luna, who also goes by the nickname “El Tory”, is the head of the operations for the Zetas in the northern Mexican city. Luna-Luna’s captured prompted a series of “narcoblockades” and chaos in Monterrey on Wednesday evening. The Mexican Army reports that Luna-Luna is responsible for numerous attacks against military personnel and even an attack on the American Consulate...

Along the border, fears are growing that the escalating drug violence in Mexico will spill into the United States. Last month, a well-known rancher was murdered in southeastern Arizona. Authorities suspect an illegal immigrant did it. The murder prompted governors in New Mexico and Texas to send forces to the border. This week, the Mexican government sent dozens of police and soldiers to the Juarez Valley to restore order. For many on both sides of the border, the fear is very real. 'Arm Yourselves' Last week, residents held a town-hall meeting in Fort Hancock, Texas — a sleepy agricultural town...
