On Tuesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Chris Jansing Reports,” Rep. Cheri Bustos (D-IL) said that it won’t be good in general or good for Democrats “if the economy continues to go in the wrong direction.” And that President Joe Biden and House Democrats have done a good job. Host Peter Alexander asked, “We know that the Fed is kicking off a big meeting today. The economy, obviously, remains on everybody’s mind. The President said on Sunday that he thinks the worst is over. But an article in Kiplinger yesterday said the following, … ‘It’s very likely that the downturn we have...

Over 600 Daesh/ISIS affiliates, including Pakistanis, Central Asians and Iranians, surrendered over the past two weeks in Afghanistan, said the country’s Defense Ministry on Saturday. Days after Afghan officials announced clearing the long-held bastions of Daesh/ISIS in the country’s east, along the disputed Durand Line border with Pakistan, the Defense Ministry said 18 more militants, accompanied by 24 women and 31 children, surrendered on Friday. With this, the total number of those associated with the group surrendering surpassed 600, it said. The ministry said the robust clean-up operation forced militants to surrender.

A security guard at a Walgreens on FM 1960 opened fire on two armed, masked teens who were preparing to enter the store, critically wounding one of the suspects. He later died at the hospital. The double shooting happened around midnight on Saturday night at the Walgreens at FM 1960 and Ella Boulevard in northeast Harris County, just west of Interstate 45. Lt. L.R. Rush of the Harris County Sheriff's Office told Metro Video that two cousins, ages 18 and 16, approached the store in what authorities believe was a planned robbery. They did not see the security guard, who...

BELFAST, Northern Ireland — More than 16 years after the Good Friday peace deal brought real hope that Protestants and Roman Catholics could live together in relative harmony, Northern Ireland is being racked by another wave of violence. The expanding problem appears to be partly racial and partly directed at immigrants of all backgrounds at a time when open borders in the European Union have led more legal migrants to Britain and Ireland in search of work. At the same time, war and economic deprivation have driven waves of legal and illegal migrants toward Europe from Asia, the Middle East...

A heroic FDNY dispatcher went beyond the call of duty — staying on the phone with an elderly Upper East Side stroke victim for nearly eight hours while rescuers struggled to pinpoint the woman’s location. EMT Joann Hilman-Payne took the call from Mary Thomas at about 1 p.m. Monday — and kept the line open as emergency responders tried to find Thomas’ address, according to FDNY documents obtained by The Post. Rescue workers were first dispatched to an East 71st Street address based on a cellphone tower relaying Thomas’ call. But she wasn’t at that location.

An 86-year-old Minnesota woman who suffers from dementia is facing a felony voting fraud charge after she says she accidentally voted twice. Margaret Schneider tells MyFoxTwinCities.com she forgot she had already sent in her absentee ballot when she went to her polling place in November. "It's very hard to remember everything," Schneider said. Schneider says the matter is particularly upsetting to her because she considers herself a proud American and has voted in every election.

ATLANTA - Two suspects were taken into custody Friday after leading police on a chase up Georgia 400. Atlanta police said they were searching for a Honda Accord they believed was linked to a couple of burglaries in the Brookhaven neighborhood earlier in the day. Patrol units were able to catch up to that car as it was getting on Georgia 400. The suspects' vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic, trying to avoid police vehicles from Atlanta and Sandy Spring as well as H.E.R.O. units. They ended up crashing into a grey Nissan sedan just after they got...

Ben Bernanke may or may not succeed in saving the economy, but at least he has the courage to try — and the honesty to tell the truth. The same cannot be said of our elected officials. Congress is buried under a crushing surplus of cynicism, while the White House seems paralyzed by a deficit of courage. An expert on the Great Depression, Bernanke is determined not to be the Federal Reserve chairman who allows the nation to plummet into Great Depression II. Since our political leaders can't be bothered to do what urgently needs to be done — stimulate...

Q: The major banks are racking up profits in the billions. Wall Street bonuses are climbing back up to where they were. And yet, lending to small businesses actually declined in the third quarter. Why is that? A: A lot of small businesses are not seeking credit, because, you know, because their business is not doing well, because the economy is slow. Others are not qualifying for credit, maybe because the value of their property has gone down. But some also can’t meet the terms and conditions that banks are setting. Q: Is this a case of banks that were...

A Swiss businessman appalled by his fellow countrymen's decision to ban minarets has extended a chimney above his company building into a minaret in protest. "It was scandalous that the Swiss voted for the ban. Now we have the support of all the far-right parties across Europe. This is shameful," Guillaume Morand, who owns a chain of shoe stores, told AFP. The businessman, who is not a Muslim, explained that the he had constructed the mock minaret at his building near western Switzerland's city of Lausanne in protest, and at the same time, to "send a message of peace." A rookie cop - the son of a highly respected New York City detective - has been stripped of his badge and gun after being caught on video viciously attacking a bicyclist who was part of a Times Square demonstration. ' The startling YouTube video shows Officer Patrick Pogan, 22, apparently setting his sights on - and then tackling - a bicyclist as he pedaled along Seventh Avenue as part of last Friday's controversial Critical Mass ride. Christopher Long, 29, was among a throng of riders as he whizzed toward the corner of West 46th Street at 9:30 p.m. and...

Al Jazeera hotlinked to a picture hosted at Snapped Shot Wow, in what's sure to be a first for the history of Snapped Shot, I'm, well, proud to announce that one of the photographs in our cache has officially been included in an online article over at al Jazeera, the Voice of the Jihadis. Of course, it goes without saying that my link to their article does not indicate that I condone or accept their message in the least, but it's still amusing to note that they're using we Kuf'r infidels to supply their every propagandistic need. Being a die hard Chicago Bears season ticket holder I was lucky enough to be selected through the Bears lotto to get 2 tickets for the big game. My heart spoke more to me than the fan in me and I decided to give these tickets to some one who is more deserving to go. I contacted a friend who lost her son in Afghanistan last year and told her I wanted to send a disabled vet to the game. She put me in contact with Wounded Heroes Foundation. They suggested I offer the tickets to Sgt Bryan Anderson of...

TIRANA, Albania: The Albanian government said Friday that it has seized assets of a man who allegedly worked with Osama bin Laden to provide support to terror networks in Albania. The Finance Ministry said it ordered authorities to block four apartments, a house, four bars and shops, and more than 2 hectares (about 5 acres) of land belonging to Yasin al-Qadi, a Saudi businessman whom the United States accused of being a terrorist in October 2001 and who is on a U.N. sanctions list requiring all U.N. members to impose a travel ban on him and block his assets, according...

BERLIN (Reuters) - German officials are drawing up lists of hundreds of Islamic militants to be deported from the country under a new law making expulsions easier, the German weekly magazine Der Spiegel said on Saturday. Der Spiegel said authorities were already using their powers under an immigration law introduced this month in conducting an operation dubbed "Aktion Kehraus" ("Action Sweep Out"). The Interior Ministry declined to comment on the report beyond saying that deportations were a matter for Germany's 16 federal states. Under new rules, potential deportees will not be able to use normal legal channels to challenge an...

I think we can make posting much easier and enjoyable if people would better back up their posts with keywords. For example, if you post an article on President Bush, add a keyword called "President Bush". This would make a simple search for posts much easier when considering if a certain topic has already been posted, and give the moderators a little more free time :)
