A 34-year-old Chino Hills man was arrested Sunday after stealing a backpack that contained GPS enabled headphones that led deputies to his location, authorities announced. Deputies with the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department responded to the 5400 block of Wild Sage Place at around 8:40 a.m. on reports of a vehicle burglary. Using the GPS tracking, the victim was able to pinpoint the location of the headphones at a business parking lot on Mountain Avenue in Chino, where deputies found the 34-year-old suspect in possession of the stolen property.

I was browsing the November 2023 Costco savings booklet. I noticed a Bose SE 45 Quiet Comfort headphones on sale on Black Friday Weekend for $219. This seems like a decent discount from the prices I have seen at Amazon and similar sites. I have never owned a high-quality pair of headphones. I am not an audiophile. This would be what I am looking for: 1: Comfort: I would wear these multiple hours during the day at my desk. 2: Sturdiness: The reason I have not invested in good headphones is I tend to abuse them, or they were poorly...

Small, snug, and unyoked from laptop or phone, AirPods are easy to wear for hours at a time, without a second thought. This, BuzzFeed News recently declared, is “Making Things Awkward for Everyone Else.” All-day AirPod wear can make social interactions clumsy and uncomfortable: Has the AirPod wearer hung up the call or turned off their music? The person on the other end of the interaction doesn’t know. Particularly in situations that require some sustained face-to-face communication—ordering coffee or crossing paths with a co-worker—wearing AirPods and ignoring others, intentionally or not, can be a jerk move, BuzzFeed News concludes. But...

When I was growing up, I always found myself feeling engrossed in my own widely absent mind. I was there, but only in body. My mind was elsewhere. Always deeply absorbed in the music I was listening to. I guess that’s something that hasn’t vastly altered much about me. I did, however, find my mind sometimes harder to manipulate with music. Not often, but enough. That’s the thing with mental illness though. Specifically, depression. It has a surprising and tedious way of making the things you love and find comfort in abundant.

Perhaps you could call it a coda to an outstanding symphony of audio/videophile tech. Oppo Digital, the company whose products have won it many awards over the years – and which deserved them – has announced it's winding down its operations. Say it isn't so, Oppo! The announcement on the company's website as of April 2, came as a big surprise to me. I've been reviewing the company's products since they first appeared on the North American scene and have yet to find one that wasn't a great addition to whichever market niche it was invading. From TV's to DAC...

This week Apple launched a new iPhone without a headphone jack and stirred up an understandable furor of discontent. But you won’t hear any headphone companies complaining about the move, even though it takes away their familiar entry point into the Apple ecosystem. Most of them have already been preparing for this change for months ... I spoke with a few of the major headphone manufacturers ... to gauge their reaction to the news. The universal response has been a mix of sunny optimism ... and practicality. Most companies ... recognize that there's plenty of opportunity in having ... Apple...

I asked an audiologist yesterday, but she didn't know. I always thought the NRR on a pack of ear plugs meant that was how much they reduced the noise. Then I read that to determine the true noise reducing effect, one subtracts seven from the NRR and divides by two. That means if my plugs have a NRR of 27-7/2=10. So if I'm firing a weapon = 169dB and only wearing earplugs, the noise hitting my ears is 159dB. That's still well above the instant damage level. Even wearing muffs, you only add 5dB to the protection which still equates...

While little Mosca the Jack Russell terrier was being noisily killed by wolves earlier this month in Chugach State Park just above Anchorage, the dog's owner was hiking along a trail to Wolverine Peak unaware of what was going on because he was wearing headphones.

Need headphones for my Tv. Ones that I can adjust at my ears. I am fine with ones with wire and jack. Someone recommended AudioTechnica. I cannot see any volume control. I need them because sometimes words are garbled. And I don't want to make noise after 6 pm. There is no noise to block, so that wont be an issue. They will plug into my black box with dials on the front that runs the speakers, Receiver?? perhaps is what it is called. Onkyo. So does anyone here use headphones for television?

My wife and I were on a crowded 1 train last year when a young red-headed woman turned to the woman seated next to her, who was playing her iPod way too loud. “Hey, mind if I listen?” the redhead said, and without waiting for a response, plucked the woman’s left earbud, placed it in her own ear, and began bobbing her head to the music. The iPod owner looked mortified. The car grew silent save for the blare. I looked at my wife, who had heard me rant about this so many times she knew exactly what I was...

Nokia recently held a design competition for headphones, encouraging designers to base their imaginings on their favorite music. What resulted were some truly insane designs. The one above, for example, is called "I'm Flying" and is based on I Believe I Can Fly by R. Kelly.

NEW YORK (AP) - Dave Legeret silently fumed as the man seated beside him on the plane blasted techno music on his iPod at full volume. "It was kind of rude," recalled Legeret, 38, a jewelry designer from Sandy Hook, Conn., who was forced to listen while flying from New York City to Disney World with his wife and 8-year-old son. "Listen to it at a level that just you can hear it and everyone else doesn't have to be subject to it." Apple Inc. (AAPL)'s ubiquitous iPod is best known as an instrument of solitude - unless the user...

Investigations The tyrant withinMost relevant passages have been boldened -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This February Mark Lilla sat on a New York University panel about 9/11 and was shocked to hear a fellow panelist, the French intellectual Jean Baudrillard, "offering his fanciful take on the attack as a [symbolic] suicide by the towers." Lilla recalled the moment recently while keynoting a U of C Women's Board luncheon. "An act of suicide by the towers-because of the evils of capitalism and globalism and despite the loss of life-was actually, according to this respected intellectual, a predictable thing." Lilla, a professor in the Committee on...
