THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) – Dutch brewing giant Heineken says it is pulling out of Russia amid Moscow’s ongoing war against Ukraine. The company said Monday that its business in Russia “is no longer sustainable nor viable in the current environment. As a result, we have decided to leave Russia.”

A TV commercial running this summer for Heineken Light beer is raising some eyebrows as it features actor Neil Patrick Harris, an openly “gay” man, asking if he can “flip another man’s meat.” The advertisement has Harris, best known for his roles in “How I Met Your Mother” and “Doogie Howser, M.D.,” making a series of statements to a man who appears to be grilling something on a barbecue.

The makers of Sam Adams and Heineken beer say they are withdrawing their sponsorship of St. Patrick's Day parades because organizers exclude gay groups. Boston Beer Co., Sam Adam's brewer, said in a statement Friday that it is disappointed that an agreement couldn't be reached between the gay rights advocacy group MassEquality and Boston parade organizers that would have allowed gay veterans to march. MOSCOW - Dutch beer giant Heineken is preparing to buy one of Russia's last major brewers under local control, the country's anti-monopoly watchdog said Thursday. Heineken filed for permission to buy St. Petersburg-based brewery Stepan Razin on June 24, said Irina Kashunina, spokeswoman for the Federal Anti-Monopoly Service. She declined to give further details. Heineken's request comes at a time when foreign brewing giants are moving swiftly to consolidate the remains of Russia's booming beer market.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - The man who masterminded the 1983 kidnapping of the late beer tycoon Alfred Heineken has been shot dead in an Amsterdam suburb Friday, police said. Police spokesman Remco Gerretse said Cor van Hout was gunned down in Amstelveen outside the capital by two men on a red motorcycle.
