Elliot Handler, who co-founded the Mattel toy company and designed the plastic playthings that have filled millions of Christmas stockings, made dinner parties possible by occupying otherwise fidgety children, and stubbed countless parents’ toes, died on Thursday at his home in Los Angeles. Port Huron, Mich. (AP) -- He paid the toll when he crossed the Blue Water Bridge, but Martin Chalker is still in trouble with authorities on both sides of the U.S.-Canada border. Police say Chalker, 35, broke into a fire truck parked at the Canada Customs compound in Point Edward, Ontario, on Sunday morning.
