  • Bush, other Beltway Washington types endorse Hutchison against Perry in Texas Gov Primary

In the news today, GW Bush endorsed Hutchison. This follows Chaney and other inside-the-beltway types endorsing Hutchison against Perry. IMHO, this is absolutely NOT the type of endorsements that Hutchison needs. Right now, in Texas, the sentiment is extremely anti-Washington, and the mood is "kick the ******ds out". All this is doing is further typing Kay Bailey to the Washington mess. I wonder if the endorsements are truly endorsements for her or if they're reading the tea leaves and deciding that an endorsement for her actually supports Perry more.

AUSTIN – Like one of those preschool picture books, Rick Perry's latest list of big-money donors invites a question: Which one doesn't belong? Included among the governor's usual givers, staunch Republicans all, is John McHale, an Austin high-tech millionaire with a long history of giving to Democrats. McHale gave the Republican governor $50,000, making him one of Perry's largest donors as he seeks to fend off a challenge from GOP rival Kay Bailey Hutchison, a U.S. senator. McHale did not return a telephone call seeking comment on why he was supporting the Republican governor. But there are clues that...

Look for Kay Bailey Hutchison to expand her circle of support from the Bushies in her bid to unseat Gov. Rick Perry. Hutchison this week added endorsements from James Baker, who served as secretary of state under George HW Bush. Earlier, Bush 43 Vice President Dick Cheney came to Texas to publicly endorse Hutchison. And the Republican senator has plenty of support from one-time aides to George W. Bush - informal advisers Karl Rove and Karen Hughes as well as former education secretary Margaret Spellings. Now, comes Poppy Bush. A source close to the campaign confirms that Bush 41 himself...

“Our history is filled with people who won by standing on their beliefs and principles,” say Medina, who cites Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan as the type of Republicans that best personify her own beliefs and the ideals for which she is fighting. Medina, the former Head of the Wharton County Republican party, believes that somewhere along the line we, as a people, have turned to following personalities rather than ideals. Medina dealt with this issue over five years ago when members of the Wharton County Republican Party Executive Committee began to display apathy. Medina said then, “Our loyalty is...

The positioning of the candidates on the stage only served to illustrate the climate of and differences between the candidates themselves. Medina was flanked on either side by the more well-known Texas stars of the Republican Party, Hutchison and Perry. Medina looked surrounded. Medina looked out-gunned. Before the night was over Hutchison and Perry should have been ducking for cover, unfortunately I don’t think either of their egos would ever allow them to admit that they got their political backsides stomped by a registered nurse from Wharton, but that is exactly what they got.

AUSTIN – Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sarah Palin have helped shift the landscape, but gender issues are still tricky for male candidates in political debates. Rick Perry may discover the pitfalls when, for the first time in his long political career he's the only man on stage tonight against two female contenders. From gestures to tone to r-e-s-p-e-c-t, the age-old tussle between men and women will be magnified by stage lights and close-up cameras during the hourlong Republican gubernatorial debate in Denton, broadcast live on public television...... Communications and political experts said that in facing off against women, Perry...

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry raised more than $7 million in the last six months and goes into the final stretch of the GOP primary for governor with $11.6 million in the bank. The total represents an escalation in fundraising in his re-election bid against Republican challenger Kay Bailey Hutchison. The deadline to file reports with the state for the latest fundraising period is Friday. Neither campaign has yet filed, but a person close to the Perry camp confirmed the amounts he will report. The contest between Perry and Hutchison for the Republican nomination in the March primary is...

Her admission Monday that she would spend “every waking moment” campaigning for governor ignores the promise she made to Texans in her initial campaign ad for governor: “I’m going to do everything I can to stop the government takeover of health care, and it’s why I’m staying in the Senate though the primary, at risk to my political future. I cannot walk away while this is pending in Congress.” “It’s unfortunate the people of Texas will now have only one senator representing their needs in Washington,” said Texans for Rick Perry spokesman Mark Miner. “If Senator Hutchison is no longer...

The political paths of three former student leaders from Texas’ two main public universities have crisscrossed for years. All three have been on the political radar since all were on the same statewide ballot in 1990. Now, two face off March 2 for the Republican nomination for governor: U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison is trying to unseat Gov. Rick Perry. The third, Democratic former state Comptroller John Sharp, wants Hutchison’s Senate seat -- whenever it might be up for election. Her seat is scheduled election in 2012, but she could resign sooner, which would cause a special election. Two of...

..... In 58 days GOP voters will select either Kay Bailey Hutchison or Rick Perry, two political veterans, popular with their party, undefeated in decades of elections. In all probability, the price of admission is too steep for political newcomer Debra Medina as the two leaders stage an air-war of political ads likely to tally a combined $30 million over two months. "It is politics at full-throttle," said Bill Miller, who advises corporate and political clients. "This will be a race where there will be a lot of gut shots, low blows. They'll be punches thrown meant to incapacitate...

Kay Bailey Hutchison, much maligned for campaigning in Texas during the health care debate, boldly announced that she would go to Washington and stay there to fight health care and kill it dead. Instead, today she accelerated it getting to the Senate floor in a bit of Senate gamesmanship.

RINOs Hutchison, Collins and Snowe voted with the Dems to cut off debate on the Military Defense Bill which was being filibustered by Repubs to slow down the health care bill. Hutchison is vying with Perry for Texas governor. I saw both their names on an older list of CFR members. Are they still members?

AUSTIN — Both Kay Bailey Hutchisons showed up to file for governor Monday — Primary Kay and General Election Kay. Like hyperkinetic twins, they tended to talk over each other. Primary Kay is very conservative. She talks about property rights, illegal immigrants and state-mandated vaccinations of teenage girls (a particular bugaboo of the Christian right). General Election Kay promises to expand the party — save it, she says — by appealing to the broad Texas electorate in November.
