(NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio/Cindy Starr) An Antarctic sea ice study has found a continuing expansion of ice since 2000, not melting, reported the Washington Post, in a trend that baffles climate change supporters. Scientists don’t fully understand why Antarctic sea ice is growing, said the Post, but the study suggested the phenomenon results from natural variability in the climate system. in this case changes in the tropical Pacific Ocean that reverberate globally.

When you think of icebergs, you probably think of those large white objects you see in movies and pictures. In rare situations, they can also be seen in a different form. When the iceberg gets flipped upside-down, it looks like a giant shiny piece of ice that’s the color of the surrounding water.

(CNN) - China has new satellite images showing a large object floating in the southern search area, the Malaysian transport minister said Saturday. The object is 22 meters long and 30 meters wide, (72 feet by 98 feet) , Hishammuddin Hussein announced. He told reporters he's just gotten the information, and China will release more details in "coming hours." The search for the missing Malaysian jetliner expanded Saturday as various countries dispatched additional aircraft and ships to scan the choppy waters of the southern Indian Ocean.

Pine Island Glacier (PIG), the longest and fastest flowing glacier in the Antarctic, has spawned a huge iceberg. The block measures about 720 sq km in area - roughly eight times the size of Manhattan Island in New York.
