One illegal alien was arrested this year in Tucson after allegedly using a stolen social security number to buy two homes and rack up over $780,000 in bad debt. Some five million fraudulent home mortgages are in the hands of illegal aliens, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Four people were in custody Tuesday after a smuggling suspect tried to run over a U.S. Border Patrol agent at an East County freeway checkpoint, prompting the officer to open fire, authorities said. The driver allegedly steered a vehicle carrying suspected illegal immigrants at the federal officer at the Buckman Springs-area citizenship verification station on westbound Interstate 8 about 4 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and USBP public affairs. SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says agents have arrested more than 900 people in California on immigration violations during a three-week sting targeting people who ignored deportation orders. The agency says 495 of the 905 people arrested were targeted in the operation. The other 410 just happened to be on the scene when agents arrived. Sixteen migrant workers were taken into custody early this morning from a tenant house on a farm in Savannah. Lev Kubiak, with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office says 11 men and 5 women were taken into custody after an investigation that began with complaint from a citizen. Kubiak wouldn't comment on the length of the investigation leading up to the raid. Those in custody were transported to Batavia for further questioning at a DHS facility there.
