A gunman went on a drive-by shooting rampage in a Santa Barbara student enclave and at least seven people were killed, including the attacker, authorities said. Investigators believe a gunman driving a black BMW acted alone in the shootings late Friday night near the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The trouble started about 8 p.m. Saturday night as sheriff's deputies responded to two stabbings on Camino Del Sur. Two people were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are unknown. About 9:30 p.m., a UCSB police officer was hit in the head with a backpack full of liquor bottles. Two Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies also responded and were injured. One deputy was hit with a bottle and will undergo surgery on his hand. The violence escalated and another deputy was hit in the head with a brick. About 100 people were arrested and at least 44 people were taken to the hospital during a weekend college party in Southern California that devolved into an out-of-control street brawl, authorities said.
