On Wednesday, The Washington Examiner’s David Drucker revealed the results of a ballot preference survey for next year’s Alabama U.S. Senate Republican primary. The poll, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, showed U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) with a 30-point lead over his nearest competitor, former Business Council of Alabama head Katie Britt. The poll of 600 likely voters was conducted August 24–September 2 and had Brooks at 41%, Britt at 11%, with Jessica Taylor at 7% and Lynda Blanchard at 3%. According to Drucker, the survey revealed Britt had “room to grow.” “A whopping 39% of respondents were undecided,” Drucker...

Democratic challengers in many of the key Senate races that will determine which party controls the chamber next year have over the past three months outraised the Republican incumbents they’re hoping to unseat in November’s general election. “The green wave of fundraising that helped Democrats take back the House in 2018 is now a tsunami of cash in Senate races for Democrats that could clear the way for them to flip the Senate in November,” said Jessica Taylor, who closely tracks the Senate races for the Cook Report, a leading non-partisan political handicapper. Republicans enjoy a 53-47 majority in the...
  • Fight for control of Senate intensifies as Democrats capitalize: 'Odds have improved'

The math was never on the GOP’s side. Republicans enjoy a 53-47 majority in the U.S. Senate, but the party’s defending 23 of the 35 seats up for grabs in the chamber this November. And while at least a half-dozen GOP seats are considered battlegrounds, Democrats are defending just a handful of vulnerable incumbents. Two developments this month appear to be giving the Democrats a further boost. “I do think it’s 50/50 right now. I think that Democrats' odds have improved over the past month,” predicted Jessica Taylor, who closely tracks the Senate races for the Cook Report, a leading...
  • 'Conservative Squad' forms to combat socialism: 'This is not your grandfather's GOP anymore'

Four female conservative congressional candidates have banded together in a “conservative squad” to combat Democratic socialist candidates across the United States. In a previous interview on “Fox & Friends,” Alabama congressional candidate Jessica Taylor called for a new generation of conservatives to counteract the ideology of Democratic socialists … […] On Thursday, Taylor joined “Fox & Friends” once again with a newly formed “conservative squad,” made up of Minnesota congressional candidate Michelle Fischbach, South Carolina congressional candidate Nancy Mace, and Texas congressional candidate Beth Van Duyne. “This is about bringing the conservative message to the people of the United States,”...
  • So Is Barack Obama a Muslim or What?

“The fallacy that President Obama is a Muslim has tripped up many a politician,” said NPR’s Jessica Taylor hopefully on Friday, “and on Thursday night, GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump was its latest victim.” Trump’s presumed faux pas was his failure to correct a questioner who asserted that Barack Obama was a Muslim. Taylor’s real error as a reporter, like that of all her mainstream colleagues, was to dismiss the questioner’s assertion as a “fallacy” without providing any evidence to the contrary. Strange but true, reporters pride themselves on knowing nothing about Obama’s roots. Last month, for instance, Catherine Thompson...
  • GOP senator criticizes Heritage (Orrin Hatch goes on MSNBC to trash Jim DeMint)

After last evening's vote to reopen the government and raise the debt ceiling, groups on the right were already criticizing Republicans who voted for the bipartisan compromise as traitors and threatening to work against their re-election. But longtime GOP Sen. Orrin Hatch said on MSNBC's "Daily Rundown" Thursday that those groups -- particularly a surging and newly controversial Heritage Action -- were risking their credibility by attacking Republicans and fueling primary challengers. -snip- Hatch, who himself survived a primary challenge from the right in 2012, had both empathy and praise for Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in leading the deal, possibly...
