Jim Berkland, a former US Geological Survey scientist, who once famously predicted the Loma Prieta quake, said mega quakes usually strike at a new moon or full moon because of the gravitation effect on the Earth…and the next full moon is on FRIDAY. The maverick, now retired, scientist spoke out after eight powerful earthquakes struck across south Asia and the pacific in the past 80 hours, claiming hundreds of lives in Japan and Ecuador. Mr Berkland predicted on October 13, 1989, an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 to 6.0 would strike San Francisco within the next week. Four days later on...

JIM BERKLAND, GEOLOGIST: The month of October, March, and April are the three most devastating earthquakes in terms of damage in the San Francisco Bay Area in history. And we are having on the 19th of this month not only the full moon, but within an hour the closest approach of the moon to the earth until the year 2016. The next day is the equinoctial tides. So you're bringing together three of the maximum tide raising forces. We know about the ocean tides. But there is also an Earth tide. And there is a tide in the ground water....

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA - January 8, 2009 (SoCalWeather.Org) Geologist Predicts Earthquake, Meteorologist Says The Pattern is Right Earthquakes are unpredictable, however one geologist has a window for them that lands in a dominating January ridge similar to the Northridge quake year. Jim Berkland, a geologist residing out of Northern California knows earthquakes. Berkland predicted the famous World Series Quake of 1989 that hit the San Francisco Bay area. Berkland is no stranger to predicting earthquakes. In fact, he gives monthly windows based on moon positions and tidal forces. Berkland has released his January earthquake window. • Moon And Rain Could Mean Quakes

Moon and rain could mean quakes 25 October 2006 From New Scientist Print Edition. A full moon may have triggered the Indian Ocean earthquake that caused the tsunami on 26 December 2004, a new study concludes. Between October 2004 and August 2005 Robin Crockett from the University of Northampton, UK, and his colleagues monitored tremors and collected tidal data along the Java/Sumatra trench. They found that major quakes were 86 per cent more likely around new and full moons, when tides are at their greatest. "At new and full moons the biggest mass of water is being loaded and unloaded...

A few nights ago, many people were mocking the post I put up regarding Coast to Coast with George Nourey. He had on geologist Jim Berkland. Berkland predicts earthquakes. I just spoke with him on the phone, and he is still predicting a 6+ earthquake for the period June 20-27. Let's see if he is right.

On Coast to Coast with George Nourey (sp?), an earthquake predictor is saying there will be a California earthquake on about June 22. He is discussing a convergence of the summer solstice and closeness of the moon. If not totally believable that someone can predict earthquakes, it is at least an interest discussion.

In case you missed the show last night, Jim Berkland made a prediction of a 6+ earthquake to occur in either Southern Nevada or Southern California during June, July, or August of this year, as these months have particularly high tide periods. He also said to pay particular close attention to July 21 due to the full moon.
