Wednesday during his opening “Talking Points Memo” segment on Fox News Channel’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” host Bill O’Reilly condemned outgoing Senate Minority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) for blocking a vote on the so-called Kate’s Law, a law that O’Reilly supports that would make a five-year prison term mandatory for any illegal that is convicted of an aggravated felony in the United States and then returns after deportation.

Ted Cruz Scolds Harry Reid, Dems on Senate Floor After Objection to Unanimous Consent on 'Kate's Law' Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) sternly scolded Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on the Senate floor Wednesday after the Democrat objected to his motion for unanimous consent on "Kate's Law," which would implement mandatory minimum sentences for illegal immigrant felons.CSPANReid argued that the mandatory minimum sentencing of criminal illegal aliens would have dire monetary consequences due to the increase in people incarcerated in America's jails. In response, Cruz delivered an excoriating attack on Democrats."I'm sorry that the Democratic party doesn't want to spend the money to...

The San Francisco sheriff who over the summer became embroiled in a national debate over 'sanctuary city' policies on Tuesday lost his bid for re-election amid a host of local controversies. Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, 54, was defeated by Vicki Hennessy, a former sheriff's official who had the endorsement of San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and the sheriff deputies association. As of early Wednesday morning, Hennessy had received 62 percent of the vote to just 31 percent for Mirkarimi. Mirkarimi was the subject of national criticism after Mexican illegal immigrant Francisco Sanchez allegedly shot and killed 32 year old Kate Steinle...

There’s something strange going on in the City by the Bay after yesterday’s municipal elections, but I suspect that it’s far too early to get very excited about it. San Francisco voters went to the polls and rejected their sheriff who had become something of the face of the so called “sanctuary city” and they did so by a wide margin. (Fox News) Embattled San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi convincingly lost his bid for re-election Tuesday after spending months in the national spotlight as the face of his city’s controversial “sanctuary city” policy on illegal immigration.Mirkarimi, 54, was defeated...

Abbott sent a letter to Sheriff Lupe Valdez, saying it was “unacceptable for a Texas Sheriff” to ignore Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requests to detain criminal aliens: “‘Sanctuary City’ policies like those promoted by your recent decision to implement your own case-by-case immigration detention plan will no longer...

Maria Espinoza, the passionate national director of The Remembrance Project in Houston, TX, was in Washington, D.C. recently to announce November 1 as the group’s annual memorial day for The National Remembrance Day for the Victims Killed By Illegal Aliens. Espinoza calls on Washington to “place Americans first” as “Americans are being killed by people who shouldn’t even be here.” Recalling what the father of slain 18-year-old Joshua Wilkerson told Espinoza about his own experience, that if Americans can’t put Americans first, they should be prepared to “go home and gather your children and choose the one you will sacrifice.”...

Weeks after NBC granted Hillary Clinton the favor of appearing on "Saturday Night Live," playing a bartender to the actress who impersonates her on the comedy show, the same leftist activists who adored that routine are trying to prevent Donald Trump from hosting the show on Nov. 7. A group called "The National Hispanic Leadership Agenda" has written a letter to NBC objecting to the booking. MoveOn.org has organized a "Dump Donald Trump" petition drive with hundreds of thousands of leftist signatures. Another petition on Change.org also drew a leftist throng through social media, aided by the hashtag RacismIsntFunny. The...

A few months back I asked the question of the Republican Party - If you can't make a story as black and white as the killing of Kate Steinle part of the debate over illegal immigration, why do you even bother to exist? Recent events have me asking the same question again: First off, revisiting the killing of Kate Steinle, National Review's Mark Krikorian reports: Sure enough, Senate Democrats voted to prevent debate on a bill to rein in sanctuary cities that shield illegal-alien criminals from deportation. The final tally was 54-45, short of the 60 votes needed just to proceed...

Senate Democrats filibustered a vote on a law that would have increased penalties for dangerous illegal immigrants. The measure nick-named "Kate's law" after Kate Steinle—a murder victim of a violent illegal immigrant—was torpedoed when a cloture vote failed to garner the necessary 60 votes. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) condemned the Democrats "for choosing to stand with convicted felons like the murderer of Kate Steinle rather than with the American people." Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev) characterized the measure as "profoundly undemocratic. The victims of crimes committed by those in the country illegally are a tiny minority that is vastly...

David Campos, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, appeared on MSNBC to talk about the sanctuary city status of San Francisco and violent recidivist illegal immigrants like Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, the man accused of murdering 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle in the city in July........ Campos said illegal immigrations are far less likely to commit violent crime compared to the rest of the population. "First of all, on this case, let's be very clear, we are still not sure exactly of all the things that happened," Campos said. "You know, in this case, it appears that the shot ricochetted...

Campos was appointed to his position by former San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom. Newsom is now the Lt. Governor of California. Campos seemingly defended Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez by laying some of the blame at the feet of federal law enforcement for allowing the gun to get into his hands.

Sen. Ted Cruz is trying for the second time this month to move a "Kate's law" bill, after the Senate failed to impose tougher penalties on illegal immigrants who re-enter the U.S. after being deported. The Texas Republican's new bill introduced Wednesday would impose a five-year minimum sentence on any illegal immigrant who re-enters the country. It's a response to the murder of Kate Steinle in San Francisco at the hands of an illegal immigrant. Cruz's second attempt comes after Senate Democrats prevented a broader bill to move ahead in the Senate this week. That bill included Kate's Law, but...

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) will try to pass legislation on Thursday that would increase penalties for undocumented immigrants who reenter the country after being deported. Under the legislation, undocumented immigrants could face additional prison time if they reenter the country, including a minimum five-year sentence if they were previously convicted of an aggravated felony or of illegally reentering the country twice. The proposal — referred to as "Kate's Law" after Kathryn Steinle, who was shot allegedly by an illegal immigrant who had already been deported five times — was fast-tracked on the Senate floor Thursday. The procedural move allows it...

As the Senate voted on the hot-button issue of sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants Tuesday, New Hampshire Republicans were calling out Governor Maggie Hassan, a Democrat running to unseat incumbent Senator Kelly Ayotte, for her past efforts to safeguard sanctuary-city policies in the Granite State. The New Hampshire GOP hopes to use the issue to draw yet another marked contrast between Hassan and Ayotte, who today voted in favor of legislation to withhold federal funding from sanctuary cities. The state party is pointing to 2008, when Hassan, then a state senator, voted to kill a bill that, in its pretext,...

The “big three” networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC punted Tuesday night on news that Senate Democrats successfully blocked legislation aimed at cracking down on sanctuary cities like San Francisco that lead to murders like that of 32-year-old Kate Steinle by an illegal immigrant. Doing the job the networks could have been doing, Fox Business Network (FBN) host Lou Dobbs alerted his views on his eponymous Tuesday show to the story that he described as “business as usual” with “Senate Republican leadership permitting Senate Democrats to successfully filibuster Republican legislation that would have cracked down on sanctuary cities.” (video at...

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Tuesday challenged Democrats to support a bill that would punish cities that don't adhere to federal immigration laws, and said today's vote on the bill will let voters see if Democrats favor illegal immigrants over Americans. "For every Democratic senator, this vote today is a simple decision: With whom do you stand?" Cruz said on the Senate floor. "Do you stand with the violent, criminal illegal aliens who are being released over and over again?" The bill would block federal funding to any of the more than 200 cities around the country that have decided...

The White House on Tuesday vowed to veto a bill designed to prevent sanctuary city deaths like the July killing of Kathryn Steinle in San Francisco, saying the solution is to legalize illegal immigrants, not to force cities and counties to cooperate in deporting them. In a state of policy, the Office of Management and Budget said if Congress won’t pass a bill legalizing illegal immigrants, it should butt out and let President Obama carry out his own policies, which include narrowing the number of illegal immigrants he deems worthy of deporting. And he said trying to force local police...
