SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met senior South Korean government officials for the first time and said it is his “firm will to vigorously advance” inter-Korean ties and pursue reunification, the North’s official news agency said on Tuesday. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un meets members of the special delegation of South Korea's President in this photo released by North Korea's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on March 6, 2018. A 10-member South Korean delegation led by National Security Office head Chung Eui-yong traveled to the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, on Monday in hopes of encouraging...

North Korea's state media published a rare criticism of China on Wednesday, saying Chinese state media commentaries calling for tougher sanctions over Pyongyang's nuclear program were undermining relations with Beijing and worsening tensions. A commentary carried by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) referred to recent commentaries in China's People's Daily and Global Times newspapers, which it said were "widely known as media speaking for the official stand of the Chinese party and government." "A string of absurd and reckless remarks are now heard from China every day only to render the present bad situation tenser," it said.

North Korea has defended its missile launches ahead of an Asian security forum expected to focus on them, describing US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as a "political imbecile" for criticising the tests. The North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) accused Dr Rice, who called North Korea a "completely irresponsible" and "dangerous" state for test-firing seven ballistic missiles on July 5, of distorting the facts. However, the communist state also came in for criticism from a United Nations official who said the launches had prompted a cutback in food aid. Dr Rice and her North Korean counterpart Paek...

SEOUL -- North Korea denounced U.S. President George W. Bush as a "wicked man" comparable to Adolf Hitler, and labeled his advocating democracy a pretext for invading other countries. "The U.S. admonition for 'freedom' and 'democracy' is to invent pretexts for violating sovereignty of other countries and nations and establishing its unchallenged domination over the world," the North's official Korean Central News Agency wrote late Monday. Bush, addressing South Korea-based U.S. troops Sunday during an Asian tour, didn't directly mention the North but alluded to the communist nation as he praised the capitalist South. South Korea "is now a...

The following text is the full statement released on Thursday by North Korea's KCNA news agency. North Korea refers to itself as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). "Pyongyang, February 10 (KCNA) - The DPRK Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement Thursday to clarify its stand to cope with the grave situation created by the US hostile policy toward the DPRK. The statement says: The second-term Bush administration's intention to antagonize the DPRK and isolate and stifle it at any cost has become quite clear. As we have clarified more than once, we justly urged the US to...

Japan Urged Not to Act Rashly Pyongyang, December 22 (KCNA) -- To put unreasonable pressure upon the DPRK under the pretext of its nuclear issue is a very irresponsible deed to push the situation to military confrontation. Japan's taking an active part in such dangerous campaign is little short of committing a suicide such as jumping into fire with faggot on its back. Minju Joson today says this in a signed commentary. It continues: It is the ulterior intention of the U.S. and the Japanese reactionaries to isolate and stifle the DPRK under the pretext of its nuclear issue....
