The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has urged people to refrain from kissing live poultry amid an outbreak of salmonella. The CDC and public health officials are investigating salmonella outbreaks after 163 people were reported ill in 43 states. The infections have been linked to contact with backyard poultry. "Don't kiss or snuggle the birds, as this can spread germs to your mouth and make you sick," the health agency said. It warned that poultry, like chicken and ducks, can carry salmonella germs even if they look healthy and clean, and these germs can easily spread in...

He just doesn’t get it in writing and signed in triplicate.Cancel culture’s latest victim: Snow White. In an article for SFGate, editors Julie Tremaine and Katie Dowd criticized Disneyland’s revamped Snow White ride for including scenes of the movie’s iconic kiss between the prince and a sleeping Snow White.“A kiss,” the authors claim, “he gives to her without her consent, while she’s asleep, which cannot possibly be true love if only one person knows it’s happening.” Horror of horrors! As if being pursued...

Across a series of studies that we published this month in the journal Nature, we demonstrated that people tend to overlook the option to subtract parts, when asked to change or improve something. We asked research participants to make changes to designs, essays, recipes, itineraries, structures and even miniature-golf holes. Our studies show that people’s first instinct is to change things by adding. When they are able and willing to think a little longer, they are perfectly capable of finding subtractive changes. But they usually don’t think longer. They quickly identify an additive idea that is good enough, put it...

KISS's September 20 concert at the Staples Center in Los Angeles has been postponed until March 4, 2020, due to what the band called "unforeseen scheduling issues," in a statement. Tickets bought for the September 20 date will be valid for the rescheduled date. Kiss is currently on its 'End of the Road' farewell world tour. The Staples Center concert was supposed to serve as the band's North American finale. One wouldn't expect "scheduling" of all things to cause a postponement on an iconic artist's farewell tour, but as long as everyone's healthy, no one should be complaining. Kiss will...

When Elton John testified before Congress, the media had a field day. When Smokey Robinson made a brief appearance, everyone cheered. But when Gene Simmons of KISS traveled to the Pentagon on May 16 to laud the troops for their service and fight back tears to discuss how America saved his Hungarian-born mother from the concentration camps, many reporters and pundits scoffed. Why did the media opt to cast negativity around Simmons’ appearance rather than fawn over it as they would typically do with any other Hollywood star? Simple: if it wasn’t for the president himself, he could be considered...

KISS Frontman Gene Simmons condemned a pro-Palestinian boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest next week in Tel Aviv. “Let music be heard throughout the world, whatever your political point of view is,” the rocker told The Daily Caller. Eurovision is the world’s largest non-sporting televised event, in which each of 41 countries enter a song and compete over three rounds. The country that wins in any given year becomes the host the following year (Israeli singer Netta won last year for her song “Toy”). Advocates of the “Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions” (BDS) movement have called on broadcasters to refuse to...

Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly. Pilots are no longer needed, but rather computer scientists from MIT. I see it all the time in many products. Always seeking to go one unnecessary step further, when often old and simpler is far better. Split second decisions are........needed, and the complexity creates danger. All of this for great cost yet very little gain. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want Albert Einstein to be my pilot. I want great flying professionals that are allowed to easily and quickly take control of a plane!
