Not all Florida Latinos think and vote alike. The various groups do not even necessarily like each other.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has some favorable ratings among both Latinos and African-American voters, according to results of the latest Franklin Pierce University/Boston Herald poll. The poll's demographic breakdown showed that by combining voters who were "very favorable" and "somewhat favorable" to Trump, the billionaire developer got a positive rating from 35 percent of Hispanics and 24 percent of African-Americans. A Breitbart analysis of the poll notes Trump would not win with either group because 49 percent of Hispanics and 69 percent of African-Americans still have a "very unfavorable" view of him. Hispanic support would help Trump in Florida,...

The amnesty wing of the GOP has traditionally offered a false choice between legalizing millions of illegal aliens or losing the Hispanic vote. Their argument was that to be competitive with the growing numbers of Hispanic voters, Republicans had to get on board with amnesty. The numbers for that argument never made any sense.

New York’s Hispanic voters may have a secret soft spot for Donald Trump. A new poll pegs support for Trump at 40 percent among Latino registered voters in the Empire State. The results would be a major break from recent electoral history. Barack Obama took 89 percent of that demographic in his 2012 victory. And, in a sign of continued electoral turmoil, 20 percent of registered Democrats plan to vote for Trump — while 21 percent of registered Republicans say they will go for Hillary Clinton. Obama held on to 95 percent of New York’s Democrats in the last election....

Tim Kaine, compared to only 20 percent who would pick the ticket of Trump and Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.

While Latino syndicated radio host Enrique Santos gushed over Hillary Clinton during his interview with her this morning, he confessed his family doesn’t feel the same. Speaking to Clinton on the phone, Santos told her, “My father’s voting for Trump because he says he can’t trust you. My mother says you’re a crook and my brother says you should go to jail. It is evident that Donald Trump has rewritten the rules of political campaigning, leaving the so- called experts, analysts, journalists and even the GOP itself puzzled by the power and effectiveness of his approach. Whether you agree with him or not, his rise and political success is undeniable. He has activated a sentiment in people that appeals to the raw emotion of Washington frustration. On the other hand, he has also set a tone in which public labeling, divisive rhetoric and racially charged comments are “OK” in the public eye, and has unraveled a whole new way of freedom of...

Adrián González went on social media earlier this month and challenged his Los Angeles Dodgers teammate Kike Hernández to add an accent mark to the "a" on Hernández's jersey. And a tiny corner of the Latino digital world cheered. Some observers concluded that Latino ballplayers were finally demanding respect from their clubs and Major League Baseball by speaking out for their heritage.

The protests outside Donald Trump's rally in Costa Mesa on Thursday night appear to point to an upcoming month of activism by Latinos and others as the GOP front-runner tries to seal the presidential nomination in the state. While the billionaire businessman has faced protests elsewhere, California could prove to be potent ground for demonstrators because of its large Latino population and Trump's negative comments about immigrants in this country illegally. A USC/Times poll found that 77% of Latinos in California have a negative view of Trump. Yet among Republicans, Trump is ahead in that poll and several others. Although...

New Year's predictions are always perilous. The only thing that's truly predictable is that unpredicted events will upset the most-careful plans and surprise the most-seasoned professionals. Look no further than Donald Trump's shocking rise and enduring popularity as proof that pundits and consultants often don't know half as much as we think we know. But it takes more than a few surprises to drive us out of the prediction business. So with full knowledge that everything I say is liable to be proven wrong within days or weeks, here goes with a few, modest predictions for 2016: America will...

**SNIP** He surrounded himself with Latinos on stage and promised to fight for agricultural workers and to shelter families from deportation. It signalled the start of an effort to narrow Hillary Clinton's wide lead with the state's Latinos. There was just one problem: the audience at the Cheyenne sports complex was mostly white. Latinos largely shunned the call to "feel the Bern", leaving the crowd to dance stiffly to the Mexican music and a question mark over the campaign's prospects in Nevada. "I do notice it's very white," said Nathan Rudig, 33, a research analyst, eyeing fellow Sanders supporters. "He's...

A Hispanic advocacy group is offering $5,000 to any audience member who calls GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump a “racist†on-air when he hosts the upcoming episode of “Saturday Night Live."  “NBC’s refusal to drop Trump has put us in the position of dropping $5,000 of cold hard cash to anyone who will yell out ‘Trump is a racist’ during the live broadcast of ‘Saturday Night Live,’ said Santiago Cejudo, an organizer for the Deport Racism PAC, on Wednesday. “We’re hoping the $5,000 will help people on set or in the studio audience find the bravery to speak out loudly and...

Donald Trump’s Latino Superfan Myriam Witcher Baffles CNN’s Baldwin: He Is ‘My Perfect Man’. In his ongoing quest to prove that Latinos do, in fact, “love” him, Donald Trump brought a Hispanic woman named Myriam Witcher up on stage at his Las Vegas rally Thursday night who could not love him more. “Yes, Mr. Trump! We love you! We love you, all the way to the White House!” she exclaimed, her hands held high in the air. On Friday, CNN’s Brooke Baldwin tried to get to the bottom of how this woman could possibly feel the way she does about...

So, a co-worker asked me what I thought about the Presidential race this evening. Before I could answer, a Latino visitor comes up and asks, "Are y'all talking about Trump?" This is what he had to say on the subject:

Dear Larry: Geez, I cannot fathom the polls that have Donald Trump leading. Either a lot of Republicans are just frustrated or stupid, or both -- and they want a bomb-thrower. Or it is pro-Hillary Clinton Democrats voting in those polls. Trump is ruining the race for the serious Republican candidates and thereby helping Hillary immensely. Democrats must be loving his clown act. It deflects attention from Hillary's emails. Over time, Trump has donated more money to Democratic candidates than Republican candidates. Does he have any positions other than the one on immigration? At least from the news clips I've...

Donald Trump previously said: “I will win the Hispanic vote in this election“. Guess what? He’s right. In a Public Policy Polling survey, Trump leads with 34% of Hispanic voters, surpassing Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. What makes this poll even more delicious, is that it had to be reported on Univision: ROGELIO MORA TAGLE, CORRESPONDENT: And it’s that upon launching his campaign, Trump said among other things that the people who emigrate from Mexico bring to the United States drugs, crime and are rapists. Those comments, for 55% of those polled, are insulting and racist, and out...

The Los Angeles Times headline was cheerful: "It's Official: Latinos Now Outnumber Whites in California." The Times said, "As of July 1, 2014, about 14.99 million Latinos live in California, edging out the 14.92 million whites in the state." Is this good news or bad news? The L.A. Times seems to think the former. The article cites the chief demographer for the state finance department who asserts, "A young Latino workforce helps the economy by backfilling retiring baby boomers." Really? Education professors Patricia Gandara of UCLA and Frances Contreras of University of Washington wrote the 2009 book "The Latino Education...

"I have a great relationship with the Mexican people. I have many people working for me - look at the job in Washington - I have many legal immigrants working with me. And many of them come from Mexico. They love me, I love them," the 2016 GOP contender said in an interview with NBC News. "And I'll tell you something, if I get the nomination, I'll win the Latino vote." ... "Hillary's weak on immigration," he said. "I might be divisive on immigration, but she's weak on immigration, which is far worse." "If you listen to Hillary, she is...
