Skip the video if you want to avoid the language but it reminds me of the 1976 "NETWORK" movie where the anchorman Howard Beale (Peter Finch) advocates viewers to open their windows and scream; "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!" NOTE: This may be a put-up job as I can find no specific source for this. However, shorn of the bad language, I AGREE with the sentiment! Transcript in the comment section.

The Board of the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), voted to change the name of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award to the Children's Literature Legacy Award because they found her “Little House” series (written in the 1930s through the 1940s) to  “reflect dated cultural attitudes toward indigenous people and people of color that contradict modern acceptance, celebration and understanding of diverse communities.”Not everyone agrees. “When the American Library Association renamed an award formerly bearing Laura Ingalls Wilder’s name, calling her works “dated” and racially offensive, the reaction was swift and...
  • Little House on the Praire Books labeled Offensive

I was sitting on my daughter’s bed reading Laura Ingalls Wilder, and this and other scenes in “Little House on the Prairie” stopped me cold. What had been, in my gauzy memory, a beautiful and pure story was complicated by passages like this: “Why don’t you like Indians, Ma?” Laura asked, and she caught a drop of molasses with her tongue. “I just don’t like them; and don’t lick your fingers, Laura,” said Ma.
  • Why Most of Us Think It’s Silly to Remove Wilder’s Name from A Children's Literature Award

Last week, the Association of Library Service to Children renamed the award it gives authors or illustrators whose books “have made, over a period of years, a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children.” This award used to be called the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, but the association’s board decided to rename it the Children's Literature Legacy Award. Why? Because, according to board members, Wilder’s books include “anti-Native and anti-Black” references that fail to represent the association’s “core values of inclusiveness, integrity and respect.”Wilder wrote about her childhood experiences in a 19th century pioneer family. Perhaps her most famous...

A division of the American Library Association voted unanimously Saturday to strip Laura Ingalls Wilder's name from a major children's literature award over concerns about how the author referred to Native Americans and blacks. The Association for Library Service to Children says the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award will now be known as the Children's Literature Legacy Award. Wilder, who wrote the Little House book series, was the first recipient of the award, which was established in 1954 and intended to honor books published in the U.S. that have had a big impact on children's literature. The Little House series was...

Call it “Little House of Representatives.” Actress Melissa Gilbert, who rose to fame as a child playing Laura Ingalls Wilder on “Little House on the Prairie,” has announced she will challenge Michigan freshman Republican Rep. Mike Bishop. Gilbert moved to Michigan in 2014 with actor husband Timothy Busfield (“Revenge of the Nerds”). In June of 2015, it was revealed that IRS had filed a tax lien against Gilbert for $360,000 in unpaid taxes. Asked about the tax lien, Gilbert, former president of the Screen Actors Guild, told the Detroit Free Press, “The truth is I got caught in a perfect...

Laura Ingalls Wilder penned one of the most beloved children's series of the 20th century, but her forthcoming autobiography will show devoted "Little House on the Prairie" fans a more realistic, grittier view of frontier living. "Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography" — Wilder's unedited draft that was written for an adult audience and eventually served as the foundation for the popular series — is slated to be released by the South Dakota State Historical Society Press nationwide this fall. The not-safe-for-children tales include stark scenes of domestic abuse, love triangles gone awry and a man who lit himself on fire...
