A federal district judge in Washington ruled on Friday that a group of nearly 200 Democratic senators and representatives have legal standing to sue President Donald Trump to prove he violated the U.S. Constitution’s emoluments provision banning the acceptance of gifts from foreign and domestic interests. The U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan found that lawmakers have adequately shown that they’ve suffered harm from the president’s alleged violation of the emoluments clause, which bans benefits from foreign governments unless a majority of both houses of Congress consent.

The New Yorker published a story written by Ronan Farrow and Jane Meyer proving that theory correct. This story centers on Deborah Ramirez. ....udge Kavanaugh has already released a statement denying the allegation. “This alleged event from 35 years ago did not happen. The people who knew me then know that this did not happen, and have said so. This is a smear, plain and simple. I look forward to testifying on Thursday about the truth, and defending my good name — and the reputation for character and integrity I have spent a lifetime — against these last-minute allegations.” 1....

A federal appeals panel seems poised to reinstate a defamation lawsuit Sarah Palin brought against The New York Times. A three-judge panel found it unusual that a judge tossed the lawsuit last year after hearing testimony from a single witness. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel heard oral arguments Friday.

Former Secretary of State John Kerry, author of Every Day is Extra, predicted that “lives will be lost” due to President Trump’s position on climate change, calling his time in office a matter of “life and death.” “This is why it’s the anecdote to what Bob Woodward lays out [in his new book Fear: Trump in the White House]. This book describes how we accept and fight, many times unsuccessfully, more times successfully, to make our democracy work and never had we needed to do that more than right now. We’re in trouble,” Kerry said about his memoir during a...

Social Media and search giants are being hit with a class-action lawsuit from a pro-Trump group who claims that they conspired against Conservatives. Freedom Watch, which promotes right to privacy among other causes, claims that Facebook, Google, Twitter and Apple violated antitrust laws. “Our YouTube account on Google never gets above 49 thousand,” said Larry Klayman, the group’s founder, during an interview on FOX Business’ “Varney & Co.” on Tuesday. “It goes up, it goes down. That’s been going on for about six months,” he claimed while adding that other conservative groups and interests are also experiencing the same issues....

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Sunday that the state will file a lawsuit against President Trump and the federal government in light of the damage from Hurricane Maria that struck Puerto Rico in September 2017. [Snip] "President Trump never tried to help Puerto Rico. Florida got attention, Texas got attention, and Puerto Rico got the short end of the stick. That is not just wrong and unethical and despicable, it is also illegal," Governor Cuomo said. The U.S. Department of Justice is throwing its support behind an anti-affirmative action group that is suing Harvard University over alleged racial discrimination in its admissions policies. In a document filed in federal court on Thursday, the Justice Department said it is siding with Students for Fair Admissions in its request for a trial, currently scheduled to begin in mid-October. The Justice Department said in a press release that Harvard has "failed to show that it does not unlawfully discriminate against Asian Americans." Harvard has filed a motion for summary judgment in its favor, which if approved by a judge...

A federal judge Friday knocked the Trump administration for withholding information from those suing it over the transgender military ban as she decided to withhold ruling on the case. In an order issued Friday, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly denied both the defendant’s and the plaintiff’s motions for summary judgment, which is when a judge makes a ruling on case without a full trial. Rather than granting either party’s motion for summary judgment, she concluded, “the court will allow plaintiffs the opportunity to complete discovery.” In a memo accompanying the order, Kollar-Kotelly wrote that...

Siding with Twitter, an appellate court has halted white nationalist Jared Taylor's lawsuit alleging he was wrongly banned from the service. In a decision issued Friday, California's First Appellate District said the Communications Decency Act protects Twitter from liability for decisions about what content to allow on the service. The appellate court stayed Taylor's lawsuit and sent the matter back to Judge Harold Kahn in San Francisco with instructions to either dismiss Taylor's complaint, or to defend a decision allowing the case to proceed. But the appellate judges made clear that they believe the case should be dismissed outright, writing...

Judge Kimberly Adams In May of 2017, Governor Nation Deal signed a Campus Carry bill into law in Georgia.  In September of that year, six college professors filed a lawsuit against Governor Deal and Georgia AG Chris Carr. The professors alleged the State did not have the authority to regulate the university system. From 11alive.com: “Whether firearms on campuses help or hinder the cause of creating a safe and secure learning environment is, to be sure, a subject of intense debate,” the lawsuit said. “Reasonable minds can and do differ on this issue, but this case is not about...

Like a real-life version of a Looney Tunes cartoon, a visitor to a Portuguese museum was injured last week when he stepped into an art installation resembling an inky void. Currently on exhibit at the Serralves Museum in Porto, Descent Into Limbo by Anish Kapoor includes an actual eight-foot hole that’s painted black—so it appears to have no depth at all. According to Britain’s Times, attendees of previous showings of the work have questioned “whether there really was a hole in the floor or whether it was simply a circle painted with an extremely dark black paint.” Presumably there will...

Sanity: Though President Barack Obama implemented the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy via executive order — which most constitutional experts said he had no authority to do because he was changing existing immigration law — POTUS Donald Trump has had a difficult time repealing that order through his own executive action. Now, however, a federal judge has handed his administration its first real DACA victory after reversing an earlier Aug. 3 ruling.

Temporary reprieve for Sikhs, Muslims and ChristiansWhen a judge forced the University of Iowa to recognize a Christian student group on the same terms that it recognized a Muslim student group, the university balked. It derecognized more than three dozen religious student groups that didn’t explicitly allow students outside their faith to serve in leadership positions, including the Muslim club. Following a new lawsuit by a different Christian student group, InterVarsity, in response to its sudden derecognition, the taxpayer-funded institution has allegedly relented, at least temporarily. InterVarsity’s lawyers at the Becket firm said Monday that the university agreed to reinstate...

Less than a week after making a stink about freedom of the press, President Trump and 'enemies of the people, CNN and apparently other news outlets have decided to get into the harassment business given that reporting news is just not good enough for them. Seriously, they tried to do this: In a motion filed in federal court on Thursday, CNN and several other media outlets requested that the court release the names and home addresses of all jurors in the Paul Manafort fraud case. Jurors haven not yet rendered a verdict on any of the 18 charges against...
