The president of the American Psychological Association (APA), which represents psychologists in the United States, accused the United States of harboring a “racism pandemic,” and the president of the Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi) stated, “Every institution in America is born from the blood of white supremacist ideology and capitalism—and that’s the disease,” according to the APA. Those statements were made by APA President Sandra Shullman and ABPsi President Theopia Jackson. Shulman stated: We are living in a racism pandemic, which is taking a heavy psychological toll on our African American citizens. The health consequences are dire. Racism is associated...

[Barf Alert] Pope: Compassion for earth is vaccine against epidemic of indifference ROME — Contemplation and compassion are the necessary components of an integral ecology that ensures both the care of the environment and the common good, Pope Francis said.“Compassion is the opposite of indifference,” Pope Francis said Sept. 12, during an audience with members of the “Laudato Si'” Communities. “Our compassion is the best vaccine against the epidemic of indifference.”The “Laudato Si'” Communities in Italy were founded by Bishop Domenico Pompili of Rieti, Italy, and Carlo Petrini, founder of the Slow Food Movement, a grassroots organization that promotes the...

Hoping someone can jog my memory... Trying to track down the specific cartoon where Bugs Bunny says "What a maroon! What an ignoranimus!" It sounds like the first few seconds of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxGgnI6kCrs There are other cartoons where Bugs uses "maroon" or "ultra-maroon," but to the best of my knowledge, this particular combo was used only once. (There's a Tasmanian Devil cartoon where Bugs calls him a maroon and then uses ignoranimus in the next sentence, but that's not this particular quote.) I have the Looney Tunes Golden Collection, but it's taking me a while to re-watch the entire...

It’s not just the guns, almost every aspect of the cartoon series means it deserves to be canceled.“Looney Tunes†is back, this time on HBO Max, but with one major difference from the original series. In this iteration, when Elmer Fudd goes after Bugs Bunny, he won’t be armed with a rifle, but a scythe. Because if there’s one thing that doesn’t suggest a violent and bloody demise, it’s a scythe. In explaining the change, executive producer Peter Browngardt said, “We’re not doing guns. But we can do cartoony violence — TNT, the Acme stuff. All that was kind of grandfathered...

Grouchy Looney Tunes character Elmer Fudd will no longer be hunting wabbits using his signature single-barrel hunting rifle. Warner Bros’ reboot of the show dubbed “Looney Tunes Cartoons” that airs on HBO Max will be stripping Fudd of his gun and will instead arm him with a scythe in his pursuit of the slippery Bugs Bunny. “We’re not doing guns,” Peter Browngardt, the executive producer of the new show, told The New York Times. “But, we can do cartoony violence — TNT, the Acme stuff. All that was kind of grandfathered in.”

In a new series based on the beloved “Looney Tunes” cartoons, the classic character Elmer Fudd will no longer carry a gun. The new series “Looney Tunes Cartoons,” which premiered last week on the streaming service HBO Max, will feature the cartoon’s characteristic violence – using sticks of dynamite, booby traps and the iconic anvils and bank safes dropped onto characters, The New York Times reported last week. However, Peter Browngardt, the series executive producer and showrunner, told the outlet, “We’re not doing guns.” “But we can do cartoony violence — TNT, the Acme stuff. All that was kind of...

Dr. Deborah Birx said Saturday that Americans should especially focus on social distancing guidelines in the next two weeks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. “This is the moment to not be going to the grocery store, not going to the pharmacy, but doing everything you can to keep your family and your friends safe,” she said. Birx noted that Pennsylvania, Colorado, and the Washington, DC, metro area were starting to have an increasing number of cases. “We’re hoping and believing that if people mitigate strongly, the work that they did over the last two weeks will blunt that...

Actors and actresses in anti-gun Hollywood will be surrounded by armed security on Sunday as they attend the 77th annual Golden Globes. New York Daily News reports Beverly Hill Police Department Capt. Michael Hill saying, “We have a robust security plan that includes assistance from our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners. Additionally, we will be using the most contemporary technologies in an attempt to ensure the ceremony is held without incident.” Variety quotes Beverly Hills Police Lt. Robert Maycott noting that the US strike against Iran has not altered the security plan. Rather, he noted that “security is...

When I was a kid, I loved to wake up Saturday morning to watch The Bugs Bunny Roadrunner hour. I bought the Looney Tunes golden collection which should contain most of the episodes, and it is money well spent. Those episodes never get old. But I was wondering, is there anyone here old enough to remember how they were originally broadcast back in the 40s and 50s? I doubt they had Saturday morning cartoon lineups back then. Did you have to go to the movie theaters to watch them or what?

In 1995, Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan declared, “Sometime in the next century the United States is going to have to address the question of apportionment in the Senate.” Perhaps that time has come. Today the voting power of a citizen in Wyoming, the smallest state in terms of population, is about 67 times that of a citizen in the largest state of California, and the disparities among the states are only increasing. The situation is untenable.

Jane Fonda compared Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler at the Women’s Media Awards on Thursday. “If you’ve read anything about the rise of the Third Reich and Adolf Hitler, you will see the parallels,” Fonda maintained. “Attacking the media is the first step in the move towards fascism.” Fonda, given her wild misjudgment of the only American to systematically murder scores of his fellow countrymen in an actual concentration camp, strikes as the wrong messenger bearing the wrong message here. Before Jane Fonda saw Donald Trump as Adolf Hitler, she saw Jim Jones as a hero. “We are familiar with...

But there’s something genuinely harrowing about the sight of Peter Rabbit – gentle, Edwardian Peter Rabbit – thoughtlessly injuring some birds, or grabbing a pile of lettuce leaves and making it rain like a banker in a stripclub, or literally twerking. No joke, all of these things happen in the trailer. There’s even a moment where a badger hurls a hedgehog at a dartboard, and it’s so much like the dwarf-throwing scene from The Wolf of Wall Street that you’re left with the incontrovertible feeling that this entire venture was put together by people who genuinely hate Peter Rabbit. Just...

Anyone born before 1980 has probably seen every single Looney Tunes cartoon short at least a dozen times. There are so many of them and nearly every one of them are completely enjoyable. Which Bugs Bunny Roadrunner hour cartoon is your favorite?

As I watch another passive-aggressive hit on Trump by McCain, his latest being his remarks about the Kushner-Russian back channel fake news story, I see a shrinking and increasingly butt-hurt man. A man who was once a hero and has since been corrupted and minimized by the swamp in which he now comfortably resides. But all you have to do to know John McCain is to consider something. As one of the most powerful Veterans and senators in Washington, it was under his watch, spanning several different administrations, that the VA crumbled into one of the most shameful and embarrassing...

Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) said in an interview with Elle magazine published Monday that she "is out to get" President Donald Trump and wants to ensure that he will be impeached. [Snip] Waters said she was so outspoken about her dislike for Trump because she "could not live with the way he treated other people." "I'm out to get him," she said. "And when he talked about grabbing women? Okay? I'm out to get him. I'm gonna see him out of office. And I think it's going to happen. Get ready for impeachment."

Never one to shy away from the social media spotlight, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei recently took to Twitter to bash the United States for alleged racial injustices, using popular hashtags like #Ferguson and #BlackLivesMatter to draw parallels to Jesus and the unrest in Gaza.“#Jesus endured sufferings to oppose tyrants who had put humans in hell in this world& the hereafter while he backed the oppressed. #Ferguson,†Iran’s chief political and religious authority tweeted to his 92,000 followers on Sunday, CNN reported.Mr. Khamenei went on to compare Jesus’ struggle to that of black people in the United States.“It’s expected...
