Former Loveland Officer Russell Maranto, 28, punched Angelia Hall, 59, in the mouth while she was detained in a hospital emergency room. In the footage, Hall can be heard becoming increasingly frustrated and angry as she sits in an examination chair while cursing and yelling at the officers and nurses who were present. But it was when she spat at Maranto that he immediately reacted by punching her. Another officer in the room intervened and pulled Maranto...

Another former Loveland police officer will spend time behind bars for her role in the violent arrest of a 73-year-old woman with dementia. Daria Jalali was sentenced to 45 days in jail by a Larimer County judge on Friday after pleading guilty to failing to intervene in the use of excessive force in June. She will serve an additional three years of parole following her release. The sentencing is the latest development in the legal saga stemming from the 2020 arrest of Karen Garner, which was captured on body-worn camera and widely circulated online. “(Jalali) made poor choices that day...

They were seen in bodycam footage slamming Garner to the ground and twisting her arm, which resulted in a fractured elbow and dislocated arm, according to a federal lawsuit filed in...

Online court records showed Hopp faces charges of second-degree assault causing serious bodily injury, attempt to influence a public servant, and official misconduct. The first two charges are felonies. The records showed Jalali faces charges of failure to report use of force by a peace...

“Ready for the pop? Here comes the pop.” The quote above is from a Loveland Police officer – Austin Hopp – said in reference to the sound it made when he dislocated and fractured Karen Garner’s shoulder. Hopp made this comment to two fellow Loveland Police officers while they watched his body camera video together at the police station. They all laughed about it. The comment was made while Karen Garner, who has dementia, remained handcuffed to a bench in a cell just 10 feet away from them, alone, confused and crying in pain. She would ultimately go over six...

More asinine overreaction from the quivering minds of school officials In Loveland Colorado, about 45 minutes North of Denver, a 7-year-old 2nd grader has been suspended for trying to save the world. It appears that the boy lobbed "an imaginary grenade into a box with what he called pretend evil forces inside." According to the child, he pretended to blow up the box "so nothing can get out and destroy the world." Thank God he wasn't carrying a Hello Kitty Bubble Gun, a small piece of paper, or a pointed finger. Who knows what kind of imaginary trauma he could...

Rocco Landesman is the chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. Boy, does he know how to spin the official line on offensive art. In a recent interview in Cincinnati, he was asked vaguely about controversy. "The best art taps into deep feelings, sometimes to comfort and sometimes to confront. Art can be very uncomfortable," Landesman said. "That can lead to strong reactions. For some of us, it draws us into the arts over our lifetimes and careers. For others, it creates strong negative feelings." Landesman wasn't being asked specifically about negative feelings over the Loveland Museum Gallery in...

LOVELAND — About 25 to 30 residents stood outside the Loveland Museum/Gallery this morning protesting a portion of an exhibit that appears to show Jesus Christ involved in a sex act. "This is not art, it's smut, pure and simple," said Ronald Minto, who said he's not against graphic art per se. But the color lithograph produced by Stanford University's Enrique Chagoya is outright pornography, he said. "This is a museum, not an X-rated book store," said Minto. The lithograph is spread over 12 panels, each about 7- by 7-inches, and is called "The Misadventures of the Romantic Cannibals." It's...
