  • MAIG Spokesman: You Shouldn’t Shoot Unless Your Attacker Has a Gun

The world the people behind Mayors Against Illegal Guns inhabit seems to be mighty black and white. With maybe a slight green tinge to the sky. Mark Glaze, executive director of MAIG, believes that someone should only be allowed to use a gun to defend themselves if their attacker also has a one. In his opinion, the lack of a gun indicates that the attacker “just wants to have a fistfight.” Yeah, well, tell that to the two people per day in this country who are beaten to death with their attackers’ bare hands.

Executive Director of Mayors Against Illegal Guns Mark Glaze had some interesting advice for people who were being attacked by someone with a weapon other than a gun during an interview with Chris Matthews. MARK GLAZE: Very often somebody will come at you. They might want to have a fistfight. They might come at you with an axe handle. MATTHEWS: Would you consider the guy with the axe handle armed or not? GLAZE: Not with a gun. MATTHEWS: I would consider him armed. GLAZE: I have a word for him. I grew up in Colorado where my dad was a...

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is losing part of his arsenal of local leaders as more and more long-time members of his gun-control group Mayors Against Illegal Guns say they aren’t happy with the coalition’s trajectory and want out. While the group apparently is growing in membership overall amid an effort to assume a larger profile in the national gun debate, it's turning some members off. In the past five months, 50 members of the group have quit. Many say they did so because the organization abandoned its mission statement of going after illegal guns, and instead used its political...

A pro-gun control group of mayors started by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has scheduled an event in Fargo on Monday, but Bloomberg himself is not expected to attend. Neither is Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker, who said he’s gotten nothing but flak from the tri-state area since announcing his membership in Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns group years ago. “I’ve never resigned, but I’m not an active member either. So I don’t plan on attending,” Walaker said, adding that he hadn’t heard of the event until he was contacted by a reporter. Walaker is the only North Dakota mayor...

Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott is among a growing number of city leaders across the nation pulling out of a group call Mayors Against Illegal Guns. The group, spearheaded by New York City Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, has been an active advocate for gun control measures. Scott, who joined the group after taking office last year, said he unsubscribed because their political views have exceeded his. ... “They’re not just against illegal guns, they’re against all guns.” Both Buzzfeed and the New York Post have reported that Mayors Against Illegal Guns has lost nearly 50 members since...

Nashua Mayor Donalee Lozeau quit New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun group Mayors Against Illegal Guns after it exposed its true mission: to pursue strict new gun-control laws. She has had plenty of company. A review of the group’s membership by news and entertainment website Buzzfeed.com found that it has lost more than 50 members who have quit, lost re-election or had their terms expire. Lozeau quit after she saw the group’s first ad attacking U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte for voting against a gun-control bill. “I said, ‘Wait a minute, I don’t want to be part of something like...

Mayor Bloomberg’s anti-gun club suddenly isn’t such a hot ticket. His gun-control group Mayors Against Illegal Guns has lost more than 50 of its original mayoral members in the last few months, as disenchanted mayors quit the coalition or leave office. Bloomberg, who pumped millions of dollars of his personal fortune into the group to make it one of the loudest voices in the gun-control debate, now is struggling to replace ex-members. “The original focus, I thought, was going to be . . . on better enforcement of our existing laws, and if anything, we have talked about not getting...

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s gun control group Mayors Against Illegal Guns is finding it hard to keep its membership up, thanks to dozens of resignations and lost elections over the last few months. . . . . . According to an old version of its member list, saved on a blog dated back to late February, more than 50 mayors who were then listed on MAIG’s website are no longer there.

The American Rifle and Pistol Association wants to be a nonpartisan alternative to the NRA, but critics are calling it a Democratic gun control group. When the American Rifle and Pistol Association launched July 4, it hoped to attract gun owners across the political spectrum who were looking for a "sane" alternative to the NRA. So far, that effort doesn't appear to be going well. [READ: New Gun Group Aims to Be Nonpartisan Alternative to the NRA]On various gun forums and blogs, the reception has been anything but friendly. Instead of being depicted as the new and improved NRA, the...

It has come to light last week that New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been using New York City funds and resources to aid his private organization, Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG). The billionaire mayor already contributes the vast majority of the funding for the “MAIG Action Fund,” but it has now been revealed that he is using the City’s taxpayer money to fund MAIG itself — his own personal vendetta. For a man of vast personal wealth, it is beyond comprehension that Bloomberg would waste New York City taxpayer resources to staff and fund a massive, national lobbying campaign...

Phoenix: Wednesday, July 3rd at 9:00 am at Burton Barr Library, 1221 N Central Avenue, Phoenix 85004. Tucson: Friday, July 5th at 12:00 noon at St. Odilla Church, 7570 North Paseo Del Norte, Tucson 85704.  The MAIG tour has been very tight with information about their schedule, but Second Amendment supporters have been able to provide a small amount of reaction time for protests of these anti-freedom events. They have already had major effects,...

WARNING: VIDEO OF ACTUAL VIOLENT ASSAULT ON A WOMAN IN HER OWN HOME http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dvvHMM6TF50 This is what Governors Cuomo (NY SAFE Act) and Blumenthal (CT), along with Mayor Bloomberg and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, want for every woman in the country. A large home invader broke into a house, and battered a smaller and weaker woman, who was of course unarmed as encouraged by New Jersey's gun laws. Unfortunately, some lower-class individuals have left racist comments on the video, because the attacker happened to be Black. They need to be reminded that violent white criminals (e.g. KKK) do similar things,...

Recently, the Mayor of Dover NH, Dean Trefethen, has been asked to quit Mike Bloomberg’s Illegal Mayors against Guns (as the mayor of Nashua did), but has doubled down on his membership. He takes pride in standing alongside some 30 mayors arrested for crimes from bribery to buggery and back again, and pride in trying to stop “the epidemic of gun violence,” which in New Hampshire as well as the rest of America refers mostly to bummed-out losers whacking themselves (something that happens everywhere in the world where bummed-out losers despair about their miserable lives), and to criminal losers being...

The "No More Names: National Drive to Reduce Gun Violence" rally in Atlanta today was more heavily attended by counter-ralliers from GeorgiaCarry.org by a margin of approximately two to one than by MAIG supporters. The rally was held at the State Capitol. The media covering the event also seemed to outnumber the Mayors Against Illegal Guns attendees. The GeorgiaCarry members were evident by their orange "Guns Save Lives" buttons. The Executive Director of GeorgiaCarry, Jerry Henry was present. Following weekend revelations that New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) website is registered to a New York City government server and apparently administered by city employees, a Bellevue-based gun rights group wants New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to investigate. CBS News, Politico and others learned about the MAIG website registration and Monday morning, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms called on Schneiderman to determine whether any laws have been broken. Gottlieb told Examiner that using taxpayer-owned computer servers to host a website for a politically-motivated gun control group is “pretty...

The name “Mayors Against Illegal Guns” is well known as Mike Bloomberg’s gun-control arm, which he spends his personal fortune through on ads. Yet the group’s website is registered to, and handled by, official city government servers and staffers. Domain names for MAIG were registered in 2006 by the New York City Department of Information and Technology, and have remained on official city web servers ever since.Yet the group’s “action fund,” through which he has piped at least $14 million of his own money in ads over gun control this year alone, is registered as a 501c4, a nonprofit “social...

An independent Illinois mayor is leaving New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun coalition because he said the group strayed from its original mission and became too focused on pushing for an assault-weapons ban. “I’ve dropped out of a group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG),” Rockford, Illinois mayor Larry Morrissey said at a Rockford Tea Party town hall Saturday as the crowd burst into applause. “The reason why I joined the group in the first place is because I took the name for what it said. Raleigh, N.C. — As part of ongoing effort to get Congress to pass "common-sense gun laws," supporters of Mayors Against Illegal Guns rallied in downtown Raleigh's Moore Square Saturday to call for lawmakers to strengthen the country's background check system. The group, a coalition of more than 900 mayors from across the country, is conducting a 100-day bus tour that began following a June 14 ceremony that marked the six-month anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn. Neil Heslin, whose son Jesse Lewis was one of 20 first graders slain in the Dec. 14, 2012 rampage...

The official website of gun control advocacy group Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) is hosted by the City of New York, according to publicly available web hosting records. This revelation, first reported by conservative blogger John Ekdahl on June 20, is the latest evidence of coordination between government officials and MAIG using public resources. Founded by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, MAIG is registered under section 501(c)(4) of the tax code as a social welfare organization granted a tax exempt status. Domain records at WhoIs.net also state that the registrant of MayorsAgainstIllegalGuns.org, MAIG’s primary website, is the New York City...
