It was just about week ago that we highlighted a mysterious trend that was sweeping the U.S.: citizens were receiving unsolicited packages of seeds, with return addresses from China, for apparently no reason at all. Now, the U.S. has started to identify "14 types of plants" that the seeds belonged to, revealing a “mix of ornamental, fruit and vegetable, herb and weed species,” according to the NY Times. Cabbage, hibiscus, lavender, mint, morning glory, mustard, rose, rosemary and sage have all been identified. Osama El-Lissy of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service said: “This...

Long before FBI computer contractor and Clinton operative Rodney L. Joffe allegedly trolled Internet traffic for dirt on President Trump, he mined direct-marketing contact lists for the names and addresses of unwitting Americans to target in a promotional scam involving a grandfather clock. ... Not just any clock, mind you, but a “world famous Bentley IX” model, according to postcards his companies mailed out to millions of people in the late 1980s claiming they'd won the clock in a contest they never entered. There was just one hitch: the lucky winners had to send $69.19 in shipping fees to redeem...

Freepers are the best and know everything! I need some prescription meds that my insurance co. will not pay for. My doctor suggested getting from Mexico or Canada! I searched and found too many Canada Pharmacies on the net, great prices. But I don't know whether to trust any of them. I hate to risk $100+ to find out. Would appreciate any tips if you have ordered RX from Canada.

Melania Trump will become the first foreign-born wife of an American president in almost 200 years. On January 20, her husband, Donald Trump, will be inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States. Most Americans do not know much about 46-year-old Melania Trump. She was born in the former Yugoslav republic of Slovenia. It is a small country surrounded by Austria, Hungary, Italy and Croatia. It has a small coastline on the Adriatic Sea. Slovenia also has castles that are hundreds of years old, large forests and clear rivers. VOA recently traveled to the country to learn about Melania...

WALNUT CREEK (KRON/BCN) — A 21-year-old Lafayette native built the firearms he used to kill a 19-year-old college woman before he turned the gun on himself at a home in Walnut Creek last month, police said Tuesday.Investigators say Scott Bertics bought gun parts through the mail and then secretly built the two firearms he used in the murder-suicide that claimed the life of Clare Orton. The shooting happened on July 21 at a home in the city’s north Homestead neighborhood. Officers arrived on scene to find the two dead dead from apparent gunshot wounds in the home where Orton was...

There were anti-aircraft cannons and ammunition for sale through the mail back then as well.  I  remember buying my first pistol, a Colt Woodsman, across state lines without paperwork,  for cash, just before the Gun Control Act of 1968 went into effect, at age 17.  It was all legal, and the crime rate was lower than it is now, even after it has dropped by half in the last 20 years.  ©2014 by Dean Weingarten: Permission to share is granted when this notice is included.Link to Gun Watch
  • Maine: Bill backs tax on Internet, catalog sales (Here we go....)

AUGUSTA - If Maine had been collecting the sales tax it was owed on Internet and mail-order sales, it is projected the state would have collected another $58.9 million in sales taxes in 2003. A national study also estimates that loss in tax revenue could grow to between $81 million and $126 million in 2008 if not corrected."This is tax that is owed under current law and we are not collecting it now," Rep. Arthur Lerman, D-Augusta, said last week. "I cannot understand why this issue is not drawing more attention from the administration or, frankly, from other legislators."Lerman has...

As early as tomorrow, the House Judiciary committee will be considering House Bill HR2824. In fact, this bill is listed to be considered for online mark up on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at 10:00am. Why is this important? Because its sister bill, S1177, which has already passed in the Senate eliminates your right to order cigars by mail! It is critical that all cigar smokers email, phone or fax these representatives and request that "cigars" and "all other tobacco products" NOT BE ADDED TO HR2824. A lot of you had problems with the email addresses in our previous email. Here...

Two men swept up in the multistate federal drug paraphernalia sting known as "Operation Pipe Dreams" in February were sentenced Thursday to five years of probation, and six months in home detention. They were fined $20,000 each. Jason Robert Harris, 31, and Saeed Mohtadi, 33, pleaded guilty in May to one count each of conspiring to sell drug paraphernalia. The pair, both active in Eugene, Oregon's burgeoning art glass scene, operated several Internet businesses that marketed glass pipes and bongs created by a cadre of local glass artists. They advertised their wares as incense burners and labeled other items "for...
