It’s not been big news regularly. But for the past almost four decades women have constituted more than half each year’s college graduating classes. That’s been adding up. So, sometime this year for the first time women will comprise a majority of the college-educated workforce. That’s not just a PC scorecard because higher education is a key determinant of income, meaning eventually the gender pay gap could be closing.

Most everyone in America was and is in favor of marriage equality. Most everyone was and is in favor of marriage equality because most everyone wants the law to treat all marriages equally. The debate in the United States in the decade and a half before Obergefell v. Hodges wasn’t about equality. It was about marriage. We disagreed about what marriage is. Of course, “marriage equality” was a great slogan. It fit on a bumper sticker. You could make a red equal sign your Facebook profile picture. It was a wonderful piece of advertising. And yet it’s completely vacuous. It...

Rep. Ilhan Omar swore under oath in a 2017 divorce filing that she hadn’t seen her husband Ahmed N. Elmi in six years and didn’t know anyone who might be able to locate him — yet he appears to have designed a website for Omar’s sister this year, according to data hidden in the source code of that website. The Democratic Minnesota congresswoman swore that she had not been able to locate the man she married — who the Minneapolis Star Tribune says may or may not be her brother — since 2011. She swore she didn’t know the names...

Rep. Ilhan Omar has been accused of, but has denied, marrying her own brother. In a 2017 divorce petition, she swore she hadn’t seen Ahmed N. Elmi since 2011 and didn’t know anyone who might be able to contact him. Evidence shows that Elmi may have designed a website for Omar’s sister in 2019 and is living in the same city as her. Omar swore she unsuccessfully tried to locate her husband through social media, yet he is on Twitter and Facebook under his own name. She also swore she did not know the name of a single relative of...

LGBTQ+ Americans have historically received unjust treatment by the United States government, but some politicians are now looking to correct past wrongs. On June 20, Massachusetts Senator and Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren introduced the Refund Equality Act, a bill that would benefit same-sex couples formerly discriminated against through the U.S. Tax Code due to unequal marriage laws. If the act passes, LGBTQ+ couples married in states where their union was recognized before gay marriage was legalized nationwide in 2013 could amend their past tax returns to receive IRS refunds. According to NBC News, that's approximately $57 million in total...

Well-known theologian John Piper has shared advice for husbands dealing with a quarrelsome wife and offered the reminder that “God is able to make out of a quarrelsome wife a helpful and prudent wife.” In a recent podcast, Piper responded to a reader who asked the pastor to bring “wisdom and clarity” to Bible verses about quarrelsome wives — as the theme is brought up five times throughout Scripture. Piper first emphasized that if a man reads verses like Proverbs 21:9 — “It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than in a house shared with a...

What does the Bible really say about homosexuality and marriage, and what does it mean?

“Where is, ‘Thou shalt not rape’…?” —Pat C., Facebook question While the Bible doesn’t say, “Thou shalt not rape” in the Ten Commandments, it is summed up in the essence of the moral Law, which says to love your neighbor as yourself. Love does not rape. Hebrew criminal law considered rape such a serious crime that rapists were to be put to death: “But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die” (Deuteronomy 22:25, KJV). Yet there are some...

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota campaign finance officials said last week that U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar misused campaign funds in violation of state rules. Where I fell on the sexuality spectrum would take me the better part of two years to figure out. A part of myself wasn't living. And by not letting that part live, I was slowly dying. There's a price of admission for coming out as gay later in life. Over the course of several months, I paid the price daily. It was like I was watching a movie about myself but unable to control what was unfolding. Everything fell apart. I did my best to slowly confide in my husband. But I kept many of my feelings inside to avoid...

Lawyer George Conway called President Trump out for a cycle of "bizarre, irrational, self-defeating" and overall not "presidential" behavior on Sunday. Conway responded that Trump is "not 'presidential' at all, period." "You're mentally unwell. You engage in bizarre, irrational, self-defeating behavior which prompts criticism of you, which triggers more bizarre, irrational, self-defeating behavior. You would have been fired from any other job by now," Conway said. Lawyer George Conway called President Trump out for a cycle of "bizarre, irrational, self-defeating" and overall not "presidential" behavior on Sunday. Conway, husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, is a frequent critic of...

Some children in the inner city context grow up never knowing anything else. So when they’re exposed to a country setting, the mountains, the beach, it may be exciting, but it can also be uncomfortable and even scary for them. They’d rather retreat back to the confined, polluted and unsafe environment they’re used to. But we can all agree that they miss out. In the same way, most men have been conditioned to women being on contraceptives. They can hardly imagine the world without them and they need help (hello women!) being taken there for the first time and shown...

“The foundation of my marriage is built on a lie.” That’s a line I’ve used when new friends would ask me how I met my wife, Maura. Over our eight years together, I’ve gone back to the well so often with that joke that Maura doesn’t even feign offense anymore. She knows it’s meant for a dry laugh. But it is 100 percent accurate. In a borderline-desperate attempt to ask my future wife on a date, I lied. I did not, despite my request, actually need her help to buy one very, very red pair of Asics DS Trainers. In...

A keynote speaker for the first-ever Revoice Conference, centered on same-sex attracted Christians, has rejected the idea that Jesus Christ wants the church to accept same-sex marriage. Wesley Hill, associate professor of New Testament at the Trinity School for Ministry based in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, said in his speech Saturday evening that Jesus did not support "trimming God's standard down to fit whatever chaos is true of our lives." "Jesus was not out to undermine God's holy will for our lives. If anything, Jesus ratcheted up the standard of sexual purity and sexual holiness," said Hill. "I mean, if God agreed...

Millennials have felt more financial strain than any other generation since the Great Depression. Despite a decade of economic growth and decreasing unemployment, Americans born between 1981 and 1996 have less wealth and property, lower marriage rates, and fewer children, according to new data. “Their economic fundamentals are fundamentally different,” Christopher Kurz, an economist at the Federal Reserve, told the Wall Street Journal. Kurz and his colleagues found millennial households have an average net worth of $92,000, about 40% less than Generation X households — those born between 1965 and 1980 — in 2001 when adjusted for inflation. The millennial...

Out of all the criticisms of Donald Trump, the one I've never understood is that he's somehow anti-gay. The Trump/Pence ticket was supposed to have put up conversion-therapy camps all across America by now, right? Yet somehow it hasn't happened. With all the legitimate reasons for a person to oppose Trump, they still keep making stuff up. Pete Buttigieg has been capitalizing on this, depicting himself as some sort of victim. He wants you to think Trump is oppressing him. He just can't seem to get Trump to play along. Check out this clip from an interview Trump just gave...

Taiwan's parliament has become the first in Asia to legalise same-sex marriage following a vote on Friday. In 2017, the island's constitutional court ruled that same-sex couples had the right to legally marry. Parliament was given a two-year deadline and was required to pass the changes by 24 May. Lawmakers debated three different bills to legalise same-sex unions and the government's bill, the most progressive of the three, was passed. Thousands of gay rights supporters gathered in the rain outside the parliament building in the capital, Taipei, to await the landmark ruling. There were shouts of joy and some tearful...

ICE agents in Texas have arrested 50 people linked to a large-scale fraudulent marriage operation. On Monday, authorities announced the suspects are in custody for participating in a wedding scam used by Vietnamese nationals to bypass immigration procedures. The defendants were joined by their families in court as back to back hearings took place. The scheme reportedly began in August of 2013, and is responsible for over 150 sham marriages. The alleged ring leader — Ashley Nguyen — reportedly ran the operation from her home and from an office building nearby, where she created fraudulent paperwork for immigration authorities. During...
