RELIGIOUS LEADERS, state lawmakers and businesses filed a federal lawsuit against Gov. Larry Hogan and other Maryland officials on Saturday for violating Americans' constitutional rights during the coronavirus pandemic. A number of governors are facing similar lawsuits, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who was sued on May 4 by Rep. Paul Mitchell (R-Mich.) for her stay-at-home order, which will remain in place until at least May 28. The lawsuit filed against Maryland's Republican governor, Health Secretary Robert Neall, Deputy Secretary of Public Health Services Frances B. Phillips and Maryland State Police Superintendent Woodrow W. Jones had been under discussion for...

When Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) announced the purchase of 500,000 coronavirus tests from South Korea last week, he called it “an exponential, game-changing step forward” in the state’s effort to get more people tested. The dramatic story drew notice from Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and a dismissive swipe from fellow Republican President Trump. But more than 10 days after the chartered Korean Air plane landed, Maryland has not allowed access to the tests kits, much to the frustration of local, state and federal leaders seeking to alleviate community testing shortages. "None of the kits have been deployed, and...

Democrat Kweisi Mfume won a special congressional election in Maryland on Tuesday and will replace the late Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) for the rest of his term in the state’s 7th district. Cummings, who chaired the House Oversight Committee, died at 68 in October 2019. His office told news outlets that he died due to “complications concerning longstanding health challenges.” Following Cummings’s death, over 30 people—including some two dozen Democrats—announced bids for the seat he had held since 1996. Mfume defeated Republican Kimberly Klacik to win the seat, with The Associated Press calling the race after 8 p.m. local time....

Recently, an old friend said to me (Porter)... Porter, I'm almost afraid to ask... but what do you think about all of this madness, about the government telling everyone they have to sit in their houses? How long do you think this can go on? What do I think? You probably won't like it... We are going through the greatest mass delusion in history. Never in my life have I ever been more ashamed of our elected officials. And never in my wildest dreams did I think our entire country would fall for such complete nonsense on such an enormous...
