In Finland, traffic violation fees are on a “sliding-scale” basis, according to the seriousness of the traffic offense and how much the offender makes. Which is bad news for rich people with bad driving habits because authorities check your tax returns should you surface on their radar. Meet businessman Reima Kuisla. The BBC reported poor, or rather rich, Mr. Kuisla was driving 14 mph over the speed limit and was stopped by a police officer. After perusing his 2013 tax return, he was issued a ticket for almost $60,000. His tax returns revealed he brought in $7.2M in 2013. But,...

Added: The Smoking Gun was the first outlet to report this, and did so weeks ago. According to the Detroit News, anti-capitalism "everyman" filmmaker Michael Moore owns 9 homes. Moore's secret role as a land baron was revealed in divorce papers....

Ex-Governor Charlie Crist and his wife Carole are involved in not just one but two big projects, Gossip Extra has learned. There’s of course Charlie’s run for a second shot at the governor’s gig, as a Democrat this time. Second, there’s Goddessey — a highly unlikely business for a dweller of the governor’s mansion.... Earlier this year, Charlie flew with Carole to Texas to help her hawk her wares at a giant costume convention there — and Carole actually published photos of Charlie pressing the flesh at the convention on Goddessey’s Facebook page. Distraction? “Not at all,” Charlie told Gossip...

David Brock has a message for liberal millionaires: Don’t sweat being called hypocrites. Brock, a former “right-wing hit-man”-turned-top-big-money-Democratic-operative, is part of a behind-the-scenes campaign to convince donors it’s OK to attack the Koch brothers for spending millions of dollars while doing the exact same thing for the left. “You’re not in this room today trying to figure out how to rig the game so you can be free to make money poisoning little kids, and neither am I,” Brock told donors this month at a conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico, according to someone who attended the conference, but who...

'Liberal men are less masculine': How millionaire women prefer conservative partners who 'wear the pants' in a relationship When it comes to dating and romance, most people prefer to be with a partner who shares the same political views. But it seems that when money is involved, this preference seems to go out the window. Nearly 77per cent of democrat female millionaires, and 82per cent of female millionaires overall, said they 'would prefer to date a conservative man,' according MillionaireMatch.com. 'I don’t want a liberal man, I want someone who believes in a traditional family,' said one female millionaire. Other...

Back from his $4 million Hawaii vacation, President Barack Obama seems poised to sound the populist trumpet in an effort to turn the page on 2013’s disastrous Obamacare rollout. Many pundits are speculating that Obama, seeing the popularity of liberal populists like New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio, will use the current debate over unemployment insurance to engage in more divisive rhetoric: The Obama administration has set the stage for a push that could rekindle cries of class warfare -- calling for renewed long-term unemployment benefits, a minimum wage increase and a campaign against what Democrats call "income inequality." Ahead...

'10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty' is latest in Bigfoot craze OK, enough with the grainy footage, the first-person accounts and questionable evidence. Spike TV is looking to get to the bottom of this whole Bigfoot mystery once and for all with its next reality competition series, "10 Million Dollar Bigfoot Bounty." Not surprisingly, the series, which premieres Jan. 10, hasn't attracted a whole lot of what you would call studious, academic types. Instead, you get a whole lot of angry, sexist rednecks yelling at each other in the woods. What better way to attract a notoriously camera-shy, quite probably mythical...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Elizabeth Warren "made it clear Wednesday in an e-mail to supporters that not only would she oppose President Barack Obama's plan to cut Social Security benefits through a cost-of-living adjustment known as chained CPI..." That's another thing. It's Obama's creation. The chained CPI is like the sequester. It's his idea, it's in his budget, and wait until you hear it! I've got three or four sound bites of Jay Carney and Obama denying it; accusing the Republicans of doing it. I dare say that 99-out-of-100 low-information people don't have the slightest idea what it is. "What do...

A crafty, millionaire identity thief will spend at least four and a half years in prison after admitting today that he paid waiters at some of Manhattan's fanciest restaurants to skim the AmEx cards of wealthy customers. Between 2010 and 2011, some 265 diners had their Black and Platinum AmEx card information stolen by waiters at Smith & Wollenski, Capital Grille, Wolfgang's Steakhouse and JoJo, all thanks to Luis Damian Jacas, who pleaded guilty on the brink of opening statements in his now-scuttled enterprise corruption trial at Manhattan Supreme Court. Jacas, 42, of Manhattan, paid waiters $500 per Black card,...

A woman who was convicted of orchestrating the beating deaths of her millionaire husband and mother-in-law was sentenced Monday to life in prison. The judge also called her a coward for skipping the court session. Narcy Novack, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., waived her right to appear at the sentencing, apparently in protest, and listened to it from a prisoner holding area in an adjoining room. Judge Kenneth Karas called it "her final act of cowardice."

The days are ticking off to a January 1 fiscal implosion, and Republicans are trying to MacGyver a fiscal fix. Three days after the election, President Obama claimed the voters had given him a mandate to raise taxes on the rich. With Pew reporting that 58 percent of Americans feel the rich pay too little in taxes, it’s hard for Republicans to contradict the president. Unless Congress intervenes to prevent the Bush tax cuts from expiring, high earners will face significantly higher income taxes in 2013. For the top two brackets, the rate will rise to 36 percent (from 33...

Al Gore Warns of 'Planetary Emergency' Again by Wynton Hall 21 Nov 2012, 1:09 PM PDT In a recent interview, former Vice President Al Gore sounded the alarm of an impending "planetary emergency" if the Keystone Pipeline gets approved or if plans for Northwest coal export terminals proceed. "We have a planetary emergency," said Mr. Gore. "I know it drives some people nuts when I say that, but dammit, that’s what we face." This is not the first time Mr. Gore has declared the human race to be facing a "planetary emergency": he's made the exact same claim in 2005,...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Most people like President Barack Obama's proposal to make millionaires pay a significant share of their incomes in taxes. Yet they'd still rather cut spending than boost taxes to balance the federal budget, an Associated Press-GfK poll shows, giving Republicans an edge over Democrats in their core ideological dispute over the nation's fiscal ills. The survey suggests that while Obama's election-year tax plan targeting people making at least $1 million a year has won broad support, it has done little to shift people's basic views in the long-running partisan war over how best to tame budget deficits...

Washington (CNN) - Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid will announce Monday that Democrats will seek a .5% (point five percent) surtax on annual incomes over $1 million to pay for the first individual component of President Obama's broader jobs package, which was rejected in the Senate last week, a Senate Democratic leadership aide told CNN. That component of the larger jobs bill would provide $35 billion in aid to states to help preserve jobs for teachers and first responders, the White House and Senate Majority Leaders Harry Reid's office said. The administration and congressional Democrats hope the slimmed-down bill –...

October 6, 2011The Size of the 5.6% Millionaire's Tax by Nick KasprakCongressional Democrats have proposed a new 5.6% surtax which would apply to AGI over $1 million as their latest attempt to find a politically palatable way to pay for the American Jobs Act. The surtax proposal replaces President Obama's proposal to limit the benefit of itemized deductions to at most 28% of their value. The new proposal targets very high-income taxpayers with incomes over $1 million, so I thought it would be interesting to look at a "typical" millionaire and see how such a taxpayer would be affected. I'll...

"Class warfare ... may make for really good politics, but it makes for rotten economics," Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., chairman of the House Budget Committee, told "Fox News Sunday." The president is planning on proposing the new and higher rate as part of a broader long-term deficit-reduction plan he's unveiling Monday. It will likely include a mix of entitlement reform and new revenue, and will be aimed at the bipartisan "super committee" trying to find about $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction over the next decade. Ryan said the millionaire tax provision will undermine economic growth. "If you tax something more,...

2012 presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann and her husband Marcus could be worth up to $2.8 million, but owe as much as $750,000 in outstanding loans, according to 2010 financial disclosure documents filed late last week. The filings reveal that the Bachmann's largest assets are her husband's Christian psychotherapy clinic — which is worth at least $600,000 and generated as much as $100,000 in gross income in 2010— and the Bachmann Family Farm, valued between $500,000 and $1 million.* Bachmann has said that she and her husband "have never received a dime from the farm," which received nearly $260,000 in federal...
