JEFFERSON CITY • Republicans inside the capital city on Tuesday debated whether Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens should resign after revelations of his extramarital affair and related allegations of possible blackmail surfaced last week. Five GOP lawmakers publicly called on Greitens to step aside or said the governor should consider doing so. Their statements came Tuesday, the first workday after the holiday weekend. Other Republicans said it was too early to call for his resignation or expressed hope that the distraction would not derail the party’s legislative agenda.

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Governor Eric Greitens on Wednesday night confirmed to News 4 he had an extramarital affair, an admission a months-long News 4 investigation prompted. In a recording obtained by News 4, a woman says she had a sexual encounter with Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens and that he tried to blackmail her to keep the encounter quiet. The details were provided to News 4 by the woman’s ex-husband, claiming the sexual relationship happened between his now ex-wife and Greitens in March 2015. News 4 is not naming the woman and she has not made an on-the-record comment about...

President Donald Trump will participate in a separate private event at the new Civil Rights Museum in Jackson, Mississippi, on Saturday morning, rather than in the public ceremony. The decision came after the president’s plan to attend the opening erupted into controversy. The Mississippi Department of Archives and History and the White House agreed to have a separate event after a series of noteworthy civil rights leaders and speakers decided to boycott the event and local groups planned to protest. Trump will tour the museum and speak at a private program in the morning, and the public ceremony will begin...

ST. LOUIS • Former St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley was found not guilty Friday of murdering a man while on duty. Activists, with support from some of the city's black clergy, had pledged disruptive protests ahead of St. Louis Circuit Judge Timothy Wilson's verdict.

"The young people in the DACA program need a permanent, commonsense solution that will allow them to continue working and going to school in the only country that many of them have ever known,” Blunt said. “The manner in which this program was created has left DACA recipients in legal limbo for too long, and Congress now has a responsibility to work toward a legislative solution. At the same time, it is imperative that we continue working with the president to strengthen our border security. Enhancing our border security will help facilitate progress toward addressing all aspects of our broken...

ST. LOUIS – The mayor of St. Louis says the city is “on edge” as it awaits a ruling in the first-degree murder trial of former police officer Jason Stockley, in part because of a troubled history of justice in St. Louis and nationwide. Stockley is accused of fatally shooting Anthony Lamar Smith in 2011. The case was heard last month but it’s unclear when Judge Timothy Wilson will rule. Activists have threatened civil disobedience if Stockley, who is white, is acquitted in the death of the black suspect.

On 17 September, 2015, Matthew Bowman shot Jimmy Harold Tillery. Tillery was in the driveway of his ex wife, Cheryl Tillery. Bowman used an AK-47 clone. In the initial articles, the firearm was referred to as a ".30-caliber carbine rifle". Cheryl Tillery had finalized the divorce with her ex on 14 August, 2015, about a month before the incident. The Court had issued an emergency protective order on July 20, after an incident where Jimmy Tillery was said to have threatened Matthew Bowman and Cheryl Tillery's lives and the lives of Bowman's two young children. On August 6th, the...

Updated 2:20 p.m. Aug. 18 with lieutenant governor calling for expulsion — Missouri Lt. Gov. Mike Parson said Friday the state Senate should expel Maria Chappelle-Nadal due to her Facebook comment in which she hoped President Donald Trump would be assassinated. Parson and other top Missouri Republicans and Democrats, from Washington, D.C., to Jefferson City, already have called for Chapelle-Nadal to step down. The University City Democrat has so far resisted numerous bipartisan calls for her resignation after the comment was posted and later deleted Thursday. Parson went a step further Friday, saying that if she doesn't resign by the...

We had some good times following the exploits of Kansas carpetbagger Jason Kander as he attempted to win the Senate seat held by Roy Blunt. That effort came up short on November 8th however, and now Jason is going to be looking for a new job. Unless he has some hidden skills in heating and air conditioning which he could put to use at Carrier, that means it will most likely be something in politics. That means either a lobbyist position (which shouldn’t be too tough to find because his wife has a lot of experience in that area) or...

About 100 protesters in Ferguson, Missouri, were dispersed by police on Sunday night (March 12) after they gathered outside the market where Mike Brown allegedly stole some items on the day he was fatally killed by a police officer in 2014. The group was reacting to previously unseen footage in a new documentary, Stranger Fruit, which debuted at the SXSW Film Festival over the weekend which appeared to offer a new twist to the details of the case.

In 2016, SB 1736/HB2033 was passed in the Tennessee legislature. The bill was an attempt to hold businesses that chose to ban defensive firearms from their premises responsible for damages. That was a step to far for the Tennessee legislature. The bill was cut back to say that businesses that did not ban firearms would be immune from lawsuit for actions that resulted from their lack of a ban. In Missouri, Representative Schroer has introduced a bill, HB 96, that is very similar to the original HB 2033 in Tennessee. From news-leader.com: The proposal, known as House Bill 96,...

Elections have consequences. The presidential election of Donald Trump has been occupying most of the news space. The gun culture did very well in state and local elections. In Missouri, a Republican, Eric Greitens, replaces former Governor Nixon. Governor Nixon was decidedly anti-Second Amendment. An omnibus gun law reform bill was passed over his veto in Missouri last year. That bill included permitless or "Consititutional" carry. Originally the bill contained a watered down provision for the exercise of Second Amendment rights at public institutions of higher learning. Current Missouri law allows campus administrations to ban weapons on campus. All...

Alley where bodies of robbery suspects found There is an old saying that has been worn out, warning criminals not to scare old men. But clichés are there because they have a piece of reality embedded. An active 73-year-old retiree was well liked in the neighborhood. He helped people out, and he spent considerable time in his garage, working on his truck. Some young criminals, just getting into the most active part of their career, also noticed the truck and decided they wanted it. The retiree had been a victim of robbery attempts before. Now he carried at home....

The NRA has been a bi-partisan group, at least since the formation of the NRA-ILA in 1975. The NRA-ILA is the lobbying arm of the NRA.In the last few elections, few Democrats have been endorsed, because few Democrats supported the Second Amendment in any meaningful way.As they say, the NRA did not leave the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party left the NRA. There are exceptions. A controversial pick was Harry Reid, Senator (D) from Nevada, who got an A rating from the NRA. Many have wanted the NRA-ILA to broaden their criteria to issues other than the right to...

Late on Wednesday night, the Missouri legislature voted to overturn Gov. Jay Nixon's veto of bill SB 656 and allow Missourians to carry concealed weapons without a permit. This is known as "Constitutional carry." Missouri is now the 11th state to have a Constitutional carry law on the books.

When Michael Brown was shot and killed by a white police officer two years ago in Ferguson, Mo., Darren Seals was one of the most vocal activists leading protests across the city. He rallied a boycott of Democratic candidates in local elections after he said they failed to protect black lives. And on the day a grand jury declined to indict the Ferguson police officer, Darren Wilson, Seals held Brown’s mother in his arms as she sobbed.

One of Missouri Governor (D) Jay Nixon’s most visible actions against Second Amendment rights was his veto of the gun reform bill SB 656.
