WASHINGTON (AP) -- Attorney General Loretta Lynch is visiting a mosque in Virginia next week amid a sharp increase in hate crimes targeting Muslims. Lynch is scheduled to visit the All Dulles Area Muslim Society Center in Sterling on Monday morning.

An Islamist group with secretive compounds around the U.S. is arming up in anticipation of raids by the incoming Trump administration, according to a new report from a nonprofit think tank. Muslims of America, which is headquartered in Hancock, N.Y., and run from Pakistan by leader Sheikh Gilani, operates 22 “Islamic villages” around the nation. The compounds are legal, but Gilani has recently ordered all unarmed members to gather firearms, licenses and hunting permits, according to Clarion Project. Gilani believes his group will be targeted by Trump.

A civil rights organization says Muslim-Americans in eight states were questioned over the weekend over a pre-election terror threat. The FBI announced last week that it had received a threat from al Qaeda, planned for Monday. The threat targeted the states of New York, Virginia and Texas, but no further details were released. Over the weekend, the Council on American Islamic Relations received reports from Muslim-Americans in eight states, who said they were approached by FBI agents who wanted to speak to them about the alleged threat. DEARBORN, Mich. — A billboard written in Arabic located along a Michigan interstate near an Arab-American community is calling Donald Trump “afraid.” The Detroit Free Press reports the sign translates into English as, “Donald Trump, he can’t read this, but he is afraid of it.” The sign went up last weekend and the Free Press reports it’s funded by the Nuisance Committee super PAC, which was started by the creator of the Cards Against Humanity card game.
