Former Alabama Sen. Jeremiah A. Denton Jr., a prisoner of war for more than seven years in North Vietnam, died on Friday in Virginia Beach. Mr. Denton was 89 years old. His son, Jim Denton, told The Washington Post, which first reported the news, that his father died of a heart ailment. Mr. Denton, a retired U.S. Rear Admiral, was shot down over the city of Thanh Hoa in Vietnam in 1965 and captured while leading a bombing mission. He later wrote a book about his experiences. Mr. Denton grabbed national attention in 1966 when he was forced to give...

PORTLAND, Ore. – Officials investigating the wreckage of a World War II-era dive bomber found in the Oregon woods say at least three U.S. Navy planes of that type went down in that area from 1945 to 1948. Tillamook County Sheriff Todd Anderson said Friday investigators still don't know the origin of the wrecked Helldiver found near the now-defunct Naval Air Station Tillamook. However, Anderson said investigators have learned at least three planes of that type went down during the final years the air station was still in operation. He said two went down in 1945 and another in 1948....

Former President George H. W. Bush will be honored for his military career when the U.S. Navy commissions its new aircraft carrier Saturday at Naval Station Norfolk. The president's son, President Bush, will speak as the Navy commissions the 1,092-foot CVN-77, which will be named the USS George H.W. Bush. "The president is honored to participate in the commissioning of the USS George H.W. Bush both as the commander in chief and as a proud son," White House spokesman Carlton F. Carroll told The Washington Times. On Friday, workers finished the last details on the nuclear-powered carrier, which towers 20...

I decided to end my self-imposed exile from posting due to information that I received this past weekend from ‘a little birdie’ in Washington, which I subsequently had confirmed by another ‘insider’ if you can call him that. You know I won’t tell, so don’t bother asking me for names, links, or further information. I trust these individuals, and have received accurate information from them before and shared it here on Free Republic. Of course, all are free to either accept or reject what I am about to share, but if you know anything about the Dog, I don’t change...
